"Jason is an excellent electrician. My doorbell stopped working several weeks ago, and I was trying to find the transformer. No luck. Within 5 minutes, Jason for it. He quickly disabled the old transformer and fortunately he brought a new one with him. He was able to connect the new transformer within 15 minutes and now my doorbell works. I highly recommend Jason for any and all electrical issues. He's the right electrical technician for all your electrical needs."

"I had a outside trench dug and electric run to an above ground pool. Bryan is great guy to work with. He was actually early to arrive just a nice guy you can trust to do it right. He was the first to call back and was out to check the work I needed the next day. Highly recommended if you need an electrician. Local inspector said it was a great job as well."

"Excellent. Electrical work in a 120 year old house in not easy at best, its a real challenge that includes working in the old attic and basement. The fans are beautiful and both working as promised. They cleaned up after the job and worked steady the whole time they were here. Could not be more pleased and will use them again whenever I need electrical work done. Thanks!"

"I hired W B Lighting Rods/William Burden to install lightning rods on my home. I spoke to William on a Monday and by Thursday before 1 PM the lightning rods were installed on my home. William explained everything he was going to do before he did it. The lightning rods were affordable and most of all it gives me peace of mind knowing that my home is protected against lightning strikes and fire damage. I couldnâ t be happier with this company!!"

Electrical questions, answered by experts

The most common gauge for indoor outlets around your home is 12- and 14-gauge wires. But if you’re working with larger appliances like ovens, washing machines, or dryers (all of which require more amplitude), you might find 10-, eight-, or six-gauge wires to help support those hefty appliances.

Switching the hot and neutral wires in an outlet or receptacle, a condition known as reverse polarity, is dangerous. While the outlet will still function and provide power, it creates a significant electrical shock hazard because anything plugged into it will remain electrified even when switched off. If you touch a conductive part of the appliance, such as the metal components of a toaster, you could receive an electric shock.

Hire an electrician the same way you would an employee. Ask questions and look for a good fit. Streamline the process by using these questions to ask an electrician. It's also common to ask for a quote in writing. Don’t forget to provide all the project details to ensure there are no surprises or opportunities for added fees.

The NEC requires electrical outlets be installed in a kitchen that has a sink 12 inches wide and 24 inches deep. According to the code, that outlet must be within 2 feet of the kitchen sink. Bathrooms must have at least one electrical outlet, it must be GFCI, and it must be within 3 feet of the bathroom sink.

As a safety measure, you should always turn off the main breaker while operating your generator’s backup breaker. In addition, you should also switch off all appliance breakers so you don't have a power surge when the main breaker turns back on. And finally, turning off the main breaker prevents back-feeding, which endangers utility workers with the risk of electrocution. Back-feeding could also destroy the electrical circuits of your neighbors if they use the same power network.
