"Juan was very prompt to reach out to me and came next day. He was able to get my coax outlet working so that we could move the modem to the 1st floor. He also installed a doorbell camara for me that connects to my phone. Great price, and he and his apprentice were very friendly with me and my family."

"Excellent. Electrical work in a 120 year old house in not easy at best, its a real challenge that includes working in the old attic and basement. The fans are beautiful and both working as promised. They cleaned up after the job and worked steady the whole time they were here. Could not be more pleased and will use them again whenever I need electrical work done. Thanks!"

"WB Lightning Rods did an excellent job installing lightening rods on our home. The owner stayed onsite the entire time to supervise the work. He took extra care to plan the rod and cable placement to ensure the proper protection and retain the aesthetics of our home. His crew were knowledgeable, polite, neat and efficient. "When my previous tankless water heater died two days before Christmas, I needed a solution fast. Hurricane not only replied immediately, but had a unit reserved for me in the event I would hire them. They gave me a break on installation costs since the necessary mechanical, plumbing and electrical was already in place. I will call on them for any future needs as they have now expanded their offerings. Based on my experience so far, I can recommend Hurricane."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

You should hire a licensed electrician who is insured to perform any electrical work on your home, including lighting installation. States have different requirements for licensing and certifying electricians, so use Angi’s state licensing tool to review local guidelines.

Here are a few questions to ask electricians before hiring:

  • How many years of electrical experience do you have?

  • Are you licensed, bonded, and insured?

  • Do you work with subcontractors?

  • Do you provide a guarantee or warranty on your work?

  • What is the timeline for completion?

  • How do you handle change orders?

  • Can you provide at least three customer references?

If you encounter any issues or feel unsure about your abilities, stop immediately and contact a licensed electrician for help. It's better to be safe than sorry when it comes to electrical work, as mistakes during the wiring process can be hazardous to your home and personal safety.

In many cases, yes, upgrading your electrical panel can lower your electric bill. Upgrading an outdated electrical panel can make your home more energy-efficient, so you consume less electricity and spend less on utility bills. However, to see these savings, you’ll need to invest quite a bit. On average, installing a new electrical panel costs $1,200 to $2,000, with most people paying around $1,600.

Running conduits through an exterior wall is an effective method for powering outdoor spaces. From gardens to sheds to garages and more, it can be important to have electricity outdoors. Using conduit, which safely covers wires outdoors, is an easy way to get power where homeowners need it.

Yes, you can get shocked while using a multimeter if:

  • You touch the metal tip while testing a live current.

  • The meter isn’t properly rated for the voltage.

  • The meter picks up on transient voltage that’s above the range you’ve set.

  • The meter has defective parts.

You can prevent shock and personal injury by using a multimeter properly and maintaining your device.

If you’re unsure how to use a multimeter or want help with your project, contact a local electrician to get the job done.
