"Our kitchen ceramic tile was a mess, the grout was two different colors because we had someone come in and redo it, and it ended up in different shades. Eric made great suggestions, was very patient with us, and did a fantastic job! It looks brand new. He also did our foyer, which also turned out amazing. I highly recommend him. He was on time, clean, and just simply awesome."

Customers say: True professional

"Jim, his son and daughter work like a fine-tuned team. They did an awesome job installing our ceramic tile flooring in our powder room and relocating the main light fixture. I am looking forward to them completing the refacing of our old dark kitchen cabinets and installing the new flooring in our laundry room. Very reasonable prices and fantastic workmanship. I highly recommend them. Tony, Harmony, PA"

Small jobs welcome

"I feel fortunate that this company contacted me first! From the first phone call they were completely transparent about pricing and asked me in great detail about the job and how they could help me. The representative that did the work was friendly, polite, professional and respectful of property. He got the job done super fast and accurately too. I will be using The Handy Xpress for anything I need in my home. They make home repairs and renovations affordable for the average person and I’m extremely grateful for that."

"carpets were in terrible condition with large stains that smelled weird. I tried to remove them with various home products but nothing worked. Gabe's team was awesome. Very professional. They started and finished the job within 24 hrs of our agreement. I was so pleased with the results. The stains are gone! The odors are gone too. Highly recommend!"

Ceramic Tile questions, answered by experts

To ensure an even and unbending surface to lay tiles on, you’ll typically need to put a subfloor under a tile floor. Fiber cement backboards are the most common choice, but using plywood is also possible. Don’t neglect this step, or you could risk water damage and grout or tiles prematurely cracking or crumbling, especially in an area with high foot traffic.

Replacing tile flooring can take a few days for a pro, but larger rooms will need more time. It takes eight to 12 hours for a tiling pro to remove old grout and tiles across 100 square feet. Then, it will take about four hours to prep the subfloor for tiles and another eight to 10 hours for a pro to install new tiles. Your tiling project may take up to a week, depending on the size of the room.

Professional installation ensures a uniform, durable surface, and proper sealing, and guarantees workmanship quality, preventing future issues linked to water damage or instability.

You cannot tile directly over hot mop waterproofing because tile requires a smooth, solid surface to adhere properly. Additionally, the shower bed pan needs to be raised and sloped toward the drain to prevent water from pooling. However, you can hot mop and apply a sloped mortar bed over the top (to which the tile can then be adhered).

The underlayment determines a ceramic tile’s sturdiness, and a cement board or backer board works best. Be sure to tape the joints when using these materials, and consider laying it on top of a layer of thin-set for more stability.
