Customers say: True professional

"Jim and his son were prompt and meticulous. They installed butcher block countertops that I had purchased beforehand, along with glass tile backsplash in my kitchen. Additionally, they installed a new sink, garbage disposal, and gas cooktop, and all associated plumbing. Jim had great suggestions along the way, and overall it was a terrific experience."

"When Zane first answered my query about doing this tile job he was extremely communicative the entire time as we planned the job. He said he had an opening in just a few days if I could make my decisions about exactly what I wanted, He arrived this morning, did a great set up to keep the room clean through the process, the two of us discussed a couple approaches to the project and then he proceeded to work hard all day to bring it to fruition. I would recommend Zane to anyone who needs a home remodeling project."

Small jobs welcome

"Jesse drywalled a bathroom and utility area, repaired the ceiling and painted. When he was done it looked new again. Great work, on time and he stuck to his original bid. It was a much bigger job than I even thought once all the damaged drywall was removed."

Ceramic Tile questions, answered by experts

Generally speaking, it is better to cut tile wet when using a fast-moving wet saw to reduce dust and chipping. However, tile can be cut dry when using just about any cutting tool. Dry cutting will result in a bigger mess and may increase the risk of chipping or cracking, but if you’re just making small cuts, dry cutting is a safe and viable option. Cutting dry also means you can apply tile grout sooner, so it’s better for rushed projects.

When choosing between porcelain and ceramic tile, the best option depends on your specific needs, budget, and project application. Porcelain tile is generally more durable, denser, and harder than ceramic, making it a good choice for busy, high-traffic areas. It also offers superior moisture resistance, making it ideal for moisture-retaining spaces. However, porcelain is typically more expensive, and its hardness can make it brittle, potentially causing it to crack if a heavy object is dropped on it. In contrast, ceramic tile is a more budget-friendly option with lower material and installation costs. It is softer and easier to work with, making it a great choice for DIY projects. While not as durable as porcelain, ceramic is still a quality material suitable for many home applications, particularly small, decorative projects.

On average, tiling a shower costs between $1,800 and $5,000, with most people paying around $2,700. The price of this project depends on multiple factors, including the kind of tile you choose, the size of your shower, and labor rates in your area. If you decide to tile your own shower (instead of hiring a professional), it’ll likely cost $800 to $1,400.

No, tiling over painted walls or wallpapered surfaces is generally not recommended. Textured surfaces and paints will affect the adhesive, possibly causing tiles to lift or fall off. Painted walls with a semi-gloss or high-gloss finish are particularly difficult for adding tiles. It’s wise to strip the paint first if you install the tiles to drywall, although it’s still best to opt for a cement backer board.

A quality shower tiling project is a bathroom upgrade that can increase resale value. Bathroom remodels have the highest return on investments for any home update. Tiling a shower won’t offer the potential 70% ROI that a full bathroom remodel involving upgrading fixtures, installing storage, and a complete room retile will. However, you can expect an average return of 55% to 60% for this refresh.
