"What a great experience it was to work with Chip and Dale Ironworks. I wanted a custom gate that reflected where I live. Randy was my first contact. He listened to my request and came up with a design I love. Once I made a decision, then it took a week to make and a day to install. I appreciate the high quality work that went into fabrication, parts used, and the installation of this gate. The next day, Jim ran the needed tests, checked the operation of the system, and explained how to operate the gate including any challenges that might arise. I am receiving many compliments for this gate from my neighbors and passerby’s. The operation is super quiet and smooth. I appreciate the talent and knowledge that went into the making of this gate and the fact that I received a custom gate for a fraction of the estimated costs other companies quoted for a plain gate. This company takes pride in their workmanship and it shows!"

"Quality Calvary Construction did a fantastic job I was very pleased with every aspect of their work. When they came across something that wasn't included in the bid they came to me and explained exactly what needed to be done and what it would cost me. I really appreciated their integrity.

"Everything went great!! Alex installed 2 gates for us, one for our neighbor and replaced one side of fencing in our yard. Looks awesome and appreciated the thorough communication throughout as they were installing around some less than ideal existing brick pillars that we did not want to replace (yet). We will have them back for sure when we can get in touch with the other adjacent neighbors! We received multiple quotes and they were the only ones to talk in detail about wood varieties, show us pictures, etc. and came back with the most compelling bud. Project was done in 2 days!"

"Several months ago another person from Prestige called saying they'd be in the neighborhood and wanted to come out and give me a quote.  I don't remember the exact numbers but it was slightly above the quote that Kevin gave me.  A few days before Kevin came out their office called and said they were looking at old quotes and they thought my old quote seemed awfully high and would I mind someone coming out and giving me another quote.  I said that would be fine.  The quote was to replace my 700 square foot driveway plus the entryway and add a bit of concrete to the side of the house towards the garbage cans.  The quote to replace it with concrete was $11,916 and $15,193 to use pavers.  He said they charge the same price for whichever paver you chose (so you might be saving a lot of money or possibly overpaying).  He was very pleasant and professional.  I thought his quote was incredibly high, but I have since been told that concrete prices range from $10 to $25 per square foot.  Just counting the 700 square feet of the driveway that would work out to $17 per square foot.  The quote he gave me was already discounted with their marketing program where I would agree to let them post a sign, write a review online, allow them to give out your address for drive-bys of potential customers, allow 2-3 people to call for references,  and  I forget what else.  They gave a list of about 10 things and you have to chose 10.  I recall it was easy for me to chose 5 without even having to receive phone calls.  I chose to go another route, but I would consider hiring them in the future to do pavers if I so decide.  It would depend on what ever other quotes I get.

Driveway Gates questions, answered by experts

In most cases, you will need a permit to install a new driveway or property gate. An exception might be if you are simply replacing an existing gate. Before issuing a permit, your local municipality may require a site plan or survey to verify property lines and prevent encroachment on a neighbor's property. Permits for a gate typically cost under $100. Be aware that corner properties may have additional restrictions on gate height or style. It's wise to confirm permit requirements with your local building department or your gate installation company, which can usually handle the entire permitting process for you.

Security doors are not limited to standard sizes, and you can customize them to fit your needs and entryway dimensions. That's one of the fantastic things about security doors—they can be tailored to match your home. Keep in mind that a custom-sized security door will likely cost more than a standard size.

Yes, you can convert manual gates to electric operation. Installing a motor and an opening device from a kit allows you to convert any gate so it can open and close automatically. Be sure to buy the correct type of opener for your gate style. For example, some openers are specific to swinging gates, while others are for sliding gates. Get familiar with your swinging or sliding gate parts before you go shopping to avoid having to return to the store for the correct opener.

Other mechanisms can help you keep your gate securely shut. Secure gate latch types will do the job, such as magnetic or spring-loading, self-closing lever varieties, or automatic gate openers. However, they won’t control the speed at which the gate closes. You can purchase slam plates that use rubber buffers to reduce noise and the potential damage-inducing impact of a fast-closing, heavy gate.

Yes, most electric and automatic gates can be opened manually. They are equipped with a manual override or release mechanism that detaches the motor from the gate, allowing it to be moved by hand. This feature is essential during power outages or other emergencies.

To activate the manual override, you will typically need a specific key or tool. In some cases, you may also need a screwdriver to remove a cover to access the release mechanism. The use of a key is a common security measure to prevent unauthorized individuals from manually opening the gate.

Because every model is different, it is highly recommended to consult your gate's user manual to familiarize yourself with the specific procedure before you need to use it. Keep any necessary keys or tools in an accessible location. Be aware that automatic gates can be very heavy, so opening and closing them manually may be difficult.

In North America, electric gates are also subject to the UL 325 Standard for Safety, which includes provisions to allow emergency responders to access the property.
