"They did great work - all the staff was friendly, polite and efficient. The only hiccup we encountered was the delay in gaining the initial quote. Once we had a viable proposal, the project proceeded without delay. We were/are very grateful to have the HVAC since directly following the installation, we had months of smoke in the valley due to the fires. The HVAC saved us! Thanks Jeff. We enjoyed working with both you and Danny although all the staff were great."

"Our heating unit needed to be replaced in winter and the house needed to be rewired to accomodate the new unit. It was a $9k job. They came out in three days and were here for a few days getting the work done so we had heat. The system failed twice over the next few days because the settings weren't calibrated accurately but they came out immediately to fix it. It was very expensive and I think they did a good job. They explained to my husband everything that needed to be done. I would use them again."

*** I have recently added the Nashville area to my service coverage. Since I can do most of my services remotely with you over the phone, I am hoping to eventually open up to larger markets and help people from having to take their computer in to get it fixed, if it has internet access, I can usually fix it over the Internet. Just trying to do more to help my Angies List customers!!******** I am a sole proprietor that works out of my home. I am my only employee, but I have over 20 years experience fixing computers, and providing superior customer service. I work on a flat rate service, and don't charge by the hour because I feel it's important to educate the customer on what the issue is/was, and how to avoid it in the future. I feel that local service companies (my competition) have been overcharging customers for years. I offer a first time customer discount of 10% but I will offer 15% off for first time customers referred by Angies List. I've lived in the Huntsville area most all my life, so I know the area very well. I will never use a subcontractor as I am very picky about making sure that if my name and company is associated with something, it will be the best experience my customer has ever had, and using sub contractors won't ensure that, so I prefer to do all the work myself. Lastly, I should point out that I am a former offensive lineman for the University of Southern Mississippi and was Brett Favre's center his freshman year at Southern. I went on to play for Tom Landry in his last year, but gave up pro football early on to pursue my passion of fixing computers. If I didn't have bills to pay, I would do this for free because I love it! If you have a computer problem, I promise you that you couldn't find a better technician that will care about you as a customer, and not about the bottom line. I am always available, but don't always answer my phone, but if you leave a message, I promise to back with you as soon as possible...and figure out how to get your issue resolved in a quick, efficient and economical manner. Thanks so much for reading my ad, and I look forward to working for you!

"Went very well.  The project manager was always a phone call away which eased my mind a great deal.  Very professional overall. The HVAC is running as expected. DON'T leave the installation crew alone.  Need to make sure they're installing correctly.  The crew Sears sent out was very professional.  They hauled the old HVAC and any other trash from the installation away and vacuumed afterwards. "

Heating and Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

The DOE is phasing out AC units with SEER ratings that fall below 14 or 15. The exact minimum rating depends on your region. In the northern United States, new ACs must have a minimum SEER rating of 14, though you can still buy and install older systems as long as they were compliant when they were manufactured. In the southern and southwestern United States, you cannot buy or install older air conditioners with lower SEER ratings. The minimum rating is between 14.5 and 15, depending on the power of the unit.

If your whole house is cold that’s one thing, but what if you only have a few rooms that are cold? First, you need to determine why this may be happening. A good place to start is to investigate the potential causes listed in this article—heat transfer, airflow, thermostat problems, humidity, and insulation. Once you’ve narrowed down the issue, you’d apply the same principles to the cold rooms as you would to the entire home.

On a summer day, expect your AC to run between 12 and 16 hours. However, this time frame depends on just how hot it is outside and the comfortable temperature you’re hoping to maintain indoors. Assuming the size of your AC is appropriate for the space you’re trying to cool, it shouldn’t be a problem for it to work this many hours.

You should know the main components of an air conditioner: the condenser coils, evaporator coils, drip pan, AC filter, ducts, and refrigerant. Each part plays a key role in the performance and safety of your AC system. When tracking the source of AC issues or odors, it helps to know where to look. Your outdoor unit houses your condenser coils, fan, and compressor. Your indoor unit houses your evaporator coils, drain lines, and filter, and it connects to your ductwork.

Yes, a mini split AC system can replace central air—and quite easily, too. Since mini splits don’t require ductwork, homeowners can convert their central air system to a mini split to save money and energy. Consult with an HVAC professional to learn more about the process of replacing your central air with a mini split.
