We had a terrible experience with Lam-Air Heating & Air Conditioning in trying to get a heating/ac system we wanted. In all my years working with contractors it was the first time I’ve ever contacted the Oregon construction contractors board and I hope everyone steers clear of Lam-Air so they don’t have to go through the same thing. Problems with Lam-Air started after their install of a Daikin system. We soon found only one of the three indoor units had the specifically requested temperature programming capability. After several weeks and many calls it became clear office staff did not understand our concerns about the system not working as expected so we demanded to talk to the company owner. It appeared they didn’t know what units they’d installed and a technician was sent. The tech agreed that the units were not capable of the temperature settings and he left saying he’d get back to us on how to proceed. After two weeks of no response we called Lam-Air.
We got the run around again with office staff and found them to be unwilling to honor the original agreement we’d had with their salesman. Finally the owner did call and leave a voicemail. Not only did he quote a different price from the office manager for how much more we’d have to pay to put in the units we’d wanted all along but he stated that the small unit was not capable of the programming so we’d have to live with that. (However, that unit, already in the house, was the only one that DID have the temperature programming as expected. Duh!!) As he didn’t actually hang up when he thought he had, the voicemail further recorded a conversation between him and staff which is unflattering to them and an insult to us.
It became very clear that Lam-Air has no idea what they’re doing. They had no idea what units they installed, even after a technician visited and wrote down serial and model numbers, and they do not trouble to understand the capabilities of Daikin systems they sell to customers. Their proposals and invoices are vaguely written, almost as if on purpose, and they do not follow-up with tax rebate and tax incentive paperwork originally promised. Additionally, as I will not allow Lam-Air to step onto the property, we had another certified Daikin dealer out to review the work. They found 1) that the living room unit was improperly installed according to manufacturer guidelines as any condensation from using air conditioner setting would leak onto carpet instead of draining to outside and 2) since no insulation was placed around holes drilled in outside wall, the system ran nearly non-stop due to false temperature sensor readings on each indoor unit. This was reflected in nearly a doubling of electrical cost for this new “efficient” system. It’s now 7 months since the system was put in. Both parties did meet with the construction contractors board and the end result is that we had to pay an additional $1000 to fix all the problems with Lam-Air’s original install and to get the units we’d thought we’d paid for the first time. Overall, a very negative experience and a very stressful situation that was entirely unnecessary.
He walked around on my porch and looked at my Carrier, and then at the crawl space. Said I had a huge infestation of Black Widows and then he never called again. I have had the house fumigated twice since then to get rid of the spiders. Very disappointed.
Very satisfied with the service.
