"Eddie is a true professional and great communicator. He worked with me and my neighbor to find the perfect fence we both like. The quality of the work was greater than expected. His pricing was also very fair.. My neighbor and I are considering other projects for Eddie to build for us."

"Dorson responded immediately to our call and met twice with me at the property, with our insurance adjuster. He provided detailed bid pricing, and created drawings for the repair work the very next day. His quick response and ability to work with and explain the scope of the job to the insurance adjuster made the approval process easy. Dorson has applied for the necessary building permit and plans to start the repair as soon as the permit is received and weather cooperates. I will provide an update once the work is done."

"When we first decided to have a large deck built we went with Mr. Huff due to recommendations of other people . We were given a contract with cost and start date and finish date. Everything done as agreed and cleanup was great. We had not discussed cleanup but it was done with both decks. Price of projects very reasonable. Highly recommend this company."

"The two workers (Jerid and Donny?) were spectacular in their skills and professionalism. They really listened to me regarding what I wanted to have done and responded with most excellent results. Eli, who bid the job, was most impressive in understanding the best way to do a complicated job, and his interpersonal skills were the best I've ever seen. I would have given them five stars except one of the five jobs as bid did not get done. It was grading a path through a forested area from the house to a meadow. I understand that the steep hill that leads to my property precluded bringing both the grading machine and the back hoe machine on the same truck. So, given the time constraints they were under, the grading did not get done. With more time they could have brought the grading machine alone to the property and completed the job. I should also mention that due to an error on their GPS device they went to the wrong address and were more than an hour late."

Carpentry questions, answered by experts

For maximum stability, install grab bars on wall studs, as this will adequately support the weight. However, if you don't have access to studs, you can get by with wall anchors. If opting for the latter, choose specialty hollow wall anchors.

While framing a basement is not as difficult as finishing a basement, it's something you should typically leave to the pros. That’s because if something is installed correctly, it will affect your entire basement. However, you can take care of some of the smaller tasks, like filling holes or putting up some insulation.

You should avoid drilling or cutting into load-bearing beams because removing material will weaken it and increase the risk of structural damage or even collapse. If you do need to drill into a load-bearing beam, speak with a structural engineer first to discuss where it’s safest to drill and the width and depth of the bit that’s safe to use.

Bump-out additions can extend anywhere from 2 to 15 feet from an existing room. The right size will depend on how you plan to use the new space. For a cantilever bump-out, which doesn't require additional foundation support, the limit is typically 24 inches (2 feet). If a footing and foundation are part of the project, a bump-out can be much larger, even encompassing a whole room. It's also important to remember that many residential properties have limits on the total house size relative to the lot size.

Building a barndominium means converting a barn into a house. Barndominiums are becoming popular as spacious and stylish alternatives to typical housing structures. Old barns that become houses traditionally consist of wooden construction. However, newer structures, such as pole barns, often contain metal exteriors and roofs. Converting a metal outbuilding into a house presents an excellent opportunity to create a barndominium from metal.
