"Rob had to work around our schedule and he was very gracious about that. He did all the ordering of supplies, keeping us in the loop all the way. Itâ s clear he knows what heâ s doing and his workmanship was wonderful. Clean-up was also great. Highly recommend Rob Repairs and Construction for handyman work."

"Kind, generous, and professional people. We hired Green Yard to build a retaining wall and patio for our front yard, which required new drainage, lots of leveling, and more. Hard working crew. Finished on time, always started early and worked late. Never any issues. Love Maria in the office!!"

"FMDs did an excellent job at a fair price. The owner Jesus came to give the estimate, did the job himself, and was in constant communication throughout the entire project. He even completed the job ahead of schedule. As a family business, his brother George and cousin David often came out and worked with the crew. We could not be happier. Well definitely hire them again!"

"The two workers (Jerid and Donny?) were spectacular in their skills and professionalism. They really listened to me regarding what I wanted to have done and responded with most excellent results. Eli, who bid the job, was most impressive in understanding the best way to do a complicated job, and his interpersonal skills were the best I've ever seen. I would have given them five stars except one of the five jobs as bid did not get done. It was grading a path through a forested area from the house to a meadow. I understand that the steep hill that leads to my property precluded bringing both the grading machine and the back hoe machine on the same truck. So, given the time constraints they were under, the grading did not get done. With more time they could have brought the grading machine alone to the property and completed the job. I should also mention that due to an error on their GPS device they went to the wrong address and were more than an hour late."

"Carlos did an excellent job building our deck. The framework is so strong you could park a tank on it! He communicated well and kept me apprised of any delays. I am very pleased with his work and would highly recommend him and his company."

Carpentry questions, answered by experts

Most Cape Cod houses are two stories tall at the peak, although they’re considered one-and-a-half stories tall because the steep roof pitch cuts off a portion of the living space on the second story. Unless you raise the roof on your Cape Cod house to add a dormer, the interior rooms upstairs will lose some usable living space to the sloped ceilings.

Metal stud framing parts include the studs themselves, upper and lower tracks that act as top and bottom wall plates, various angle fasteners and clips, screws for fastening pieces togeher, metal straps, c-channel supports, and thicker steel supporting structures. Roof framing metal components include pre-fabricated trusses, heavy-gauge stud pieces, and various plates and fasteners.

Traditionally, bungalows are single-story homes, although having a half or partial story on top of the first floor is common. While adding a second story to a bungalow is certainly possible, the home would no longer be considered a bungalow by the strictest definition.

One of the most common house framing basics for decades has been using wood for the framing work. However, some framing contractors now suggest using steel frames. Steel is lightweight, resistant to fire, and resistant to moisture, all of which are areas where wood framing could cause problems. However, steel framing is more expensive than wood and limits your ability to insulate the home.

While some highly experienced homeowners can frame a house independently, it is not advisable. You will need ample carpentry experience, a team of helpers, and professionals to sign off on your work to meet local building codes. For the safest outcome, we recommend buying or building a house with the guidance of professionals.
