"Eddie is a true professional and great communicator. He worked with me and my neighbor to find the perfect fence we both like. The quality of the work was greater than expected. His pricing was also very fair.. My neighbor and I are considering other projects for Eddie to build for us."

"I hired C5 Construction to build new steps at my front entrance and to repair and paint the porch. They replaced the old concrete steps with Trex steps. I found Carlos to be easy to work with, and he offered valuable recommendations that enhanced the project. The work was of high quality, professional, and completed promptly. I highly recommend C5 Construction."

"They were able to come to the house to work within about 30 minutes of first contacting me! My parents house has a forest of weeds surrounding it and some extremely overgrown bushes. They did a fantastic job removing everything and spraying the tiny guys that were too small to pull out fully. Would definitely hire again."

"Adam with Elite Enclosures responded promptly with a quote for fence, gate & arbor replacement based on my texted dimensions & pictures. He got started right away & completed my project in 2 days - demo, haul-away & brand new fence, gate & arbor. I’d hire Elite Enclosures again in a heartbeat. Highly recommend."

Carpentry questions, answered by experts

House framing can be expensive because the materials are pricey, and the job requires a high level of expertise. The more complex the plans, the more expensive the job, but even the most basic frame needs to be installed with high-quality materials and precision. When pricing your home’s framework, remember that a sturdy frame is necessary to create a safe structure.

Yes, walls on the top floor can be load-bearing if stacked on the floor’s foundation.

Costs depend on desk size, labor, included features like drawers or motorized height adjustments, and required wall anchoring.

When deciding whether to use nails or screws for framing, the specific needs of the project must be taken into account. Nails have long been the go-to option for framing due to their affordability, ease of installation, and ability to withstand shear forces. They are perfect for structural framing projects where fast assembly is essential. In contrast, screws offer exceptional holding power and are particularly useful in situations requiring increased strength and resistance to pull-out forces. For projects that prioritize accuracy and long-lasting quality, screws may be the preferred option, though nails remain a dependable and efficient choice.

Bump-out additions can extend anywhere from 2 to 15 feet from an existing room. The right size will depend on how you plan to use the new space. For a cantilever bump-out, which doesn't require additional foundation support, the limit is typically 24 inches (2 feet). If a footing and foundation are part of the project, a bump-out can be much larger, even encompassing a whole room. It's also important to remember that many residential properties have limits on the total house size relative to the lot size.
