"John was such a pleasure to work with. We needed our deck refinished and he did an awesome job. The deck looks beautiful, and it was really easy to communicate with him. I've had John come out and help on my property with multiple projects now, including setting up stalls for my barn, and even getting my boat ready for winter storage. I would love to have him help out again when he's in the area."

"They are excellent. They are reliable. They are fair as far as money goes. The price was absolutely reasonable. They are the most reasonable people I've ever dealt with. I would absolutely use them again in the future."

"The whole process was pretty smooth.  John discussed with me what was desired and offered suggestions on alternatives for design and material to use.  I wanted to reuse some of the existing material which he was happy to do.  After we agreed to go ahead with the job, John was on schedule for starting the job.  He was accurate with his labor estimate.  He returned material to the supply houses that was not needed.  He and his workman were respectful for our property and left the job site clean.
I will use John again for various odd jobs as needed."

"Alex responded quickly with an estimate of most of the work. I added the blind and one faucet later. I asked him to supply two or three references and he e-mailed me four. All of the references gave him glowing reports. When he started he immediately showed he knew what he was doing. Everything was done well and came in at the exact price quoted. He cleaned up after the job was done and was very professional throughout the process. I would definitely use him again."

Fencing questions, answered by experts

Armadillos are attracted to water, so a leaky irrigation system or an overwatered lawn can encourage them to move in. They especially like wet areas where they can burrow and loose soil where they can dig for grubs. They are also attracted to dense ground cover, where they can often find food sources.

The best wood for a farm fence is pressure-treated wood that will stand up to various weather conditions, animal contact, and moisture. Farm fences need to resist rot and damage, so choose a species such as cedar or redwood. The natural oils in these woods give them decay resistance, which also makes them ideal for other fence types, such as a wooden snow fence.

The most durable metal for a fence is wrought iron. With proper care, a wrought iron fence can last for centuries. This means regular resealing to stave off rust and corrosion, especially in coastal climates with salty sea air. In these environments, chain link and corrugated fencing tend to stand up better to the elements with fewer maintenance needs.

Yes, installing a picket fence is a manageable DIY project for homeowners with basic tools and some patience. The process involves marking the fence line, digging post holes, setting the posts, and attaching horizontal rails and pickets. However, precision is key to ensure the fence is straight and sturdy, which can be challenging for beginners. If the fence line is long, the ground is uneven, or you’re working with more complex materials like metal or composite, hiring a pro may be a better option.

One of the best alternatives to a snow fence is to plant a living snow fence of grasses, shrubs, trees, and crops like corn. Another temporary option is using hay bales to create a barrier to disrupt the wind flow, and cause snow to accumulate in specific areas. However, hay bales are not a permanent option, so keep that in mind when choosing what type of snow fence you should install.
