"The new fence insulation went better than expected, and the final result was higher quality than I had imagined. Mike was very easy to work with, responsive, professional, good communicator and on time. The home that he installed the new fencing was a rental and we had to deal with multiple owners, which went very smooth. Also, the tenants complemented him as being very courteous and professional. I look forward to working with Mike again. I would highly recommend, five stars."

"AWG has done a great job renovating the aging greenhouses at our school. We have rehired them multiple times and expect to continue our relationship for a long time. Joe is extremely knowledgeable and skilled and we especially appreciate his community focused outlook. He has volunteered to serve on our advisory committee and volunteered his time on numerous occasions to help make our program successful. I’d recommend anyone interested in greenhouse work to speak to him."

"I wish could rate them higher! They did a vinyl fence for me. They saved me from a bad situation from a previous contractor. They charged me less than the previous contractor."

Fencing questions, answered by experts

For the most part, goats are friendly and won’t charge at you, but there are exceptions to this rule, as there are with any animal handling practices. Typically, goats don’t attack unless they feel threatened. Avoid cornering or rough handling goats to avoid getting head-butted, bitten, or kicked, and always supervise goats when they’re near children or pets.

One of the best alternatives to a snow fence is to plant a living snow fence of grasses, shrubs, trees, and crops like corn. Another temporary option is using hay bales to create a barrier to disrupt the wind flow, and cause snow to accumulate in specific areas. However, hay bales are not a permanent option, so keep that in mind when choosing what type of snow fence you should install.

If you’re part of a homeowners association (HOA), you’ll need to speak with them regarding your fence repairs prior to starting work. Sometimes, you’ll need HOA approval to start repairs and ensure that the completed project meets their standards. In other cases, direct approval might not be required to start the project. Speaking with your HOA first will help avoid any unnecessary fines and headaches.

How much does a privacy fence cost? Stockade fences cost $12 to $13 per linear foot for materials. You may find fencing that costs less, but it’s likely wholesale wood manufactured using young trees. Fencing materials made with young trees are less durable than those made with mature trees.

For installation, expect to pay $30 to $80 per hour. Installing a 150- to 200-linear-foot fence takes 20 to 35 hours, which comes to about $600 to $2,800 for labor.

If you have the time and the budget, we strongly recommend staining your fence, especially if it's looking a bit tired or hasn't been treated recently. While you may not see the same return on investment (ROI) as you would with a project like a kitchen remodel, staining a fence is one of the best ways to add a facelift to your property—a new fence stain adds serious curb appeal to your home.
