Wrote a contract with Carlos after he did some good exterior work on my house trim. While the cost was a little high, I gave him another job on fixing my kitchen cabinets. I approved a bid and paid him 50% of $1650. Almost a year later, he has not completed the cabinet doors, not returned...

We are very pleased with the process and the results. It exceeded expectations. The crew of Luis, Krista and Jonathan worked hard and made our cabinets look new again. They cleaned, sanded, stained and coated with polyurethane. They checked their work as they went along and made sure...

Craig Jorgenson and his team did an outstanding job of power-washing, prepping, and painting the exterior of our 100 year old Craftsman. We really appreciated how carefully they addressed even the most minor details of painting our house. We are thrilled with the quality, customer service and...

Went very well. No surprises. The project came in about $1000 less than a major competitor and included more cabinets. I'm extremely happy with the work.
- Nerissa E.
This was an excellent experience. I was especially impressed by 1) the high quality of the materials and installation, 2) the fact that everything was done exactly on the timeline we were given, all in 3 weeks total, and 3) the exceptional price. The cabinets are beautiful. The floor is...

I called Milan to get an estimate on replacing my kitchen counter tops. John, the salesman came out to the house and took the measurements and answered several questions that were answered slightly differently by each company that we got an estimate from. Our biggest concern was how they...

Bogdan was extremely easy to work with, communicate with, and I really felt that I could trust him. He is probably not the cheapest in town but he does absolutely quality work and really dedicates himself to your project and making sure that you are happy with it. Beyond the painting, he...

Myron came out and gave me a bid for kitchen cabinets for a house I was remodeling. He measured, set up his computer and created a layout for the existing space. I had several questions regarding the layout, cabinet construction, and aesthetic details and he answered them all very practically...
- Sylvia A.
Very bad experience. The cabinets looked beautiful. However, they were so badly constructed and so badly installed that if we had put anything at all heavy in them (such as a stack of dishes) they would have fallen down on our heads. Extremely dangerous situation. Fortunately we discovered it...

"PDX Custom Woodwork ruined our house and wasted our time and money. We spent $62k for them to spend 6 months demoing and painting. We didn't hear from Lina for at least 3 months of this, only the occasional text from Manuel. Even at their best, they rarely communicated with us and it was like pulling teeth to find out what amounts of materials WE had to order, including our own carpet/padding and tile cement, which is not standard. They also never visited the site or had a project manager overseeing the work being done. We had to beg them to come to the property and that still only produced a monthly visit, at best. Their workers came mainly on weekends so it's clear they were prioritizing many newer projects over ours. Ultimately, they barely completed $20k in work- of which, none of those projects were totally finished- and have done about THREE TIMES that amount in DAMAGES to our property, bringing the total to around $100-120k. They gave us half our kitchen cabinet doors three months ago then kept telling us the rest were on the way. Though all of the built-ins we hired them to redo were demolished, they never fabricated the new ones. We paid for all our flooring materials ourselves, which is not an industry standard, and they had the audacity to ruin them FOUR times. We shouldn't have given them the benefit of the doubt when they said they'd fix it. The patterned carpet was cut at an angle on every single piece and they ripped up carpet in places they shouldnt have, leaving us to buy and replace even more of it. Their "painters" got paint on multiple stained wood doors (including the front door and sidelights) that we were keeping, as well as every kitchen appliance including inside our garbage disposal, and in ALL of our brand new outlets and on the light switches. They also ripped a knob off of our oven range, dented all the doors on our new fridge, covered our kitchen chandelier and living room ceiling fan with paint and damaged our brand new fireplace that they were supposed to wrap in stone for us. They washed their brushes in our bathroom sink and left paint in rooms not being renovated. They made changes to another contractor’s city-permitted work between inspections, and without telling us even when we were on site. We had to correct them on measurements multiple times because they couldn't do it accurately themselves. This was maybe 1/4th of the work we wanted to bid from them. We wanted to be repeat customers, do bigger renovations, and go the long haul, but Lina and Manuel made it impossible. Our home has been unusable for half a year with nothing to show for it. Most of the work, including the over-sprayed paint job, will need to be redone, because it's spotty, has rough texture and the ceiling got the wall/cabinet paint on it in multiple areas. They didn't even seal our tile or countertops, which were the only things we thought they had completed, but didn't. Instead, we have to now file a complaint and hire new contractors, that know what they are doing this time, to finish the job."

Whether upgrading a single space or transforming an entire home, Alta Casa is dedicated to creating beautiful, functional living environments that enhance your lifestyle.
"Of all the renovation projects we have done, this was the highest budget and level of risk we ever contracted out for, so we consulted multiple sites and read reviews before narrowing the list of professional contractors to a handful and reaching out for consultations. Alta Casa immediately stood out with their excellent responsiveness and communication, and the others gradually self-selected out to the point where we were ready to proceed. How would that translate over the course of the project? Design process: The Alta Casa team listened to our needs and incorporated them into the design, asking appropriate clarifying questions along the way. Our priorities (yours may vary): - Keep original footprint and walls intact - Increase storage, but better use of space (lose the peninsula and soffits) - Increase lighting: overhead and under-cab - Functional usability of cabinetry - Coffee bar - Baking station Execution on Delivery and Project Management: - Scope: We reached an initial agreement and everything that we decided to add was appropriately and promptly covered with a change order. - Schedule: Coordination of subcontractors executed well, work was done in sequence without dependency-related problems causing delays or rework. - Budget: The budget grew as we added and communicated prioritized items, but always under control and confirmed. - Communication and Coordination, Adapting to Changes: We all know that "little hiccups" happen, and you never know what you're getting into until the walls are opened up, but the frequent and open, honest dialogue enabled us to discuss what was learned, define options, and make the choice with which we were most comfortable. - Skills and Materials: Top quality, see for yourself in the photos. Final review together to confirm successful completion and satisfaction. Summary: Being without your kitchen for several months is notoriously stressful. The team at Alta Casa, their subcontractors, and external referrals were all extremely professional and repeatedly went above and beyond to deliver us an amazing result. I would choose them again in a heartbeat, offering my highest recommendation. If I could give them 6 stars, I would. They were that good. If you are in that spot, trying to choose a contractor you can trust to deliver your project, give Alta Casa a chance to win your business."

FAQs for cabinet making projects in Portland, OR
Custom cabinets are worth the investment to transform the look of your kitchen with a design, color scheme, and aesthetic that’s unique to your home. If you’re looking for cabinets that reflect your personality but are more cost-effective, semi-custom cabinets are a great alternative that allows you to showcase your style, but with pre-made cabinets instead of fully custom. Custom cabinets also provide a 70 to 80 percent return on investment, making them a worthwhile purchase.
There are a few key differences between custom and semi-custom cabinets. While custom cabinets offer complete customization, semi-custom cabinets are less personalized, offering fewer paint color, finish, and hardware choices. In addition, custom cabinets typically take longer to install due to the build time, whereas semi-custom cabinets are prefabricated and therefore faster to install.
If you're looking for ways to save money on custom cabinets, there are a few ways to cut costs without sacrificing beauty. For starters, comparing door styles to choose the most cost-effective option is a great way to save money on the overall project.
In addition, choosing a common wood species versus an exotic one will lower the price. Woods like oak and hickory are often more affordable wood choices, and the same goes for knobs, pulls, and other finishes where picking a commonly available style can reduce costs.
Custom cabinets cost between $500 and $1,200 per linear foot on average to install. Factors like materials, size, and type of cabinet doors you choose significantly affect the overall cost.
For example, a basic slab cabinet door can cost $60 to $70 for materials alone. As its name suggests, this material is a piece of wood with no unique features. However, a mullioned glass inset panel door, which features a designed glass panel, ranges from $100 to $200 for materials per cabinet door.
Like most special-order items, custom cabinets have several pros and cons to consider when buying new cabinets. Custom cabinets are typically more expensive than prefabricated cabinet options, but the work often reflects the quality. Custom cabinets tend to last 20 or more years, but the time it takes to install them is typically longer than other cabinets—roughly 6 to 8 weeks on average from the time of ordering. However, a major benefit is the ability to personalize every aspect of your cabinetry, from cabinet hardware to custom paint colors.
