Once you’ve contained the leak, the average cost to repair a ceiling ranges from $419 to $1,359. But small ceiling patches can cost around $150. The cost to fix a leak in the ceiling will depend on the size of the affected area and the extent of the damage. As always, a pro is the best person to give you a quote on your specific situation.

There are several warning signs that a ceiling crack is connected to a larger issue. For starters, if the crack is wider than 1/8 inch or longer than 12 inches, you might have a more serious problem. Although their applications are very similar, no drywall compound and spackle are not the same thing. Spackle is a bit thicker and is used to patch holes as it dries quickly and is easy to sand. Joint compound shrinks a bit more and can be more temperamental to spread. However, one benefit is that you can use joint compound as spackle (for small jobs), but you can’t use spackle as joint compound.
