Small jobs welcome

"Hector Ortega and his associates did an outstanding installation of new sheetrock and then taped and filled all seams and blemishes to make a final wall rooms ready to be painted rooms. Hector and his father were a team of experienced drywall specialists and it showed in our final finished rooms. They were punctual, hard-working and made efficient use of their time over the four days of processing my small drywall job. WE as homeowners couldn't be more pleased and we are very happy with the end result of their carefull attention to detail and courteous workmanship. As in all projects which have different stages of construction, we as homeowners were fortunate to encounter Hector Ortega , and he was concerned about his tasks in getting the important drywall completed in a timely manner for us to prepare for the next sequence of construction installation with wall painting, flooring and new cabinets. If anyone performing home improvement or new home construction wants a qualified and consciencious drywall pro, contact this business and be made happy. Our general contractor was needing to find a more than satisfactory drywall installer, and we discovered Mr. Ortega. We as homeowner,s have been feeling fortunate that there are still some honest contractors that do what they say they can do for a reasonable price and exhibit quality workmanship with the right attitude of concern about the finished project. Therefore, my contractor Brent Wright Home Builders, and Hector Ortega made a great team in completing this phase of our small home improvement project. We believe strongly in good communication of when workers will be showing up to perform their tasks. Both have been good about keeping us informed of daily and weekly work activities. For those persons doing home improvements in Central Oregon, you do well to consider these two outstanding construction professionals. This is our fourth home improvement project in 4 years and we were glad that we partnered with both of these contractors. We strongly recommend Hector Ortega as you go-to drywall installation guy and know that he will live up to your project expectations. I intend to introduce him at our local Jefferson County/Madras Chamber of Commerce meeting and speak well of him, so that others can make the right investment with Mr. Ortega and his skills set. Thank you for the opportunity to express my gratitude for a job well done. by two local contractors who exhibited what I call the "Give a Damn" attitude."

Drywall questions, answered by experts

Whether you can reuse a drywall anchor depends on its type, material, and how it is removed. Plastic anchors, such as expansion or self-drilling types, are generally considered single-use because they are designed to expand and are likely to break or become deformed upon removal. Metal anchors, like toggle bolts, are more durable and can often be reused if they are not damaged during extraction. However, with toggle bolts, the toggle mechanism can fall inside the wall when the bolt is removed, making it difficult to retrieve. If an anchor is damaged or must be cut for removal, it cannot be reused regardless of its material.

It’s not a good idea to plaster over broken plaster (unless by broken you’re referring to cracked, in which case that’s perfectly fine). However, broken plaster can be a sign of a larger underlying issue like foundation damage or severe damage to the lath holding up the plaster, so it’s worth investigating before you simply plaster on top of the damage.

Which style of corner bead you choose—whether metal or paper-faced—depends on your preference and if you’re comfortable using metal-cutting tools and a hammer. Metal bead offers superior strength and durability but its installation is slightly more involved. We’d say for most cases, it’s better to use metal bead but if you’re not comfortable working with metal, paper-faced bead will work just fine.

While a normal moisture level for drywall is between 5% and 12%, replacement is recommended if you get consistent readings above 17%. At this level, the drywall is likely too compromised by extensive moisture damage to be considered safe. You can replace either the entire sheet or just the affected section. If you are unsure after a visual inspection, it is best to have a contractor or water restoration provider use a professional moisture meter to get an accurate reading.

Drywall can get wet and dry out without sustaining permanent damage, but only if the water damage is minor. If you have a small leak and are quick to correct the issue and set up blower fans and dehumidifiers, your drywall should dry out. If the leak is persistent, the drywall becomes totally waterlogged, or mold begins forming on the drywall, you should remove and replace it.
