"Francisco and his crew (& family) did a top-notch job. They showed up when they said they would, they provided info when they said they would, and they finished when they said they would. We have been working with a lot of sub-contractors and this is not as common as you would think! They also went above and beyond in terms of getting us a finish we absolutely love and giving us a quality product. Can't recommend them enough!"

"Despite calling them twice I never received a return phone call. I give them three stars only because this sort of treatment seems to have become standard in the industry and one gets rather used to this low level of professionalism. Great website. Ugly Walls seemed perfect for my small repair job when they said, "Whether you just need a hole in the wall fixed, or want to re-texture the entire house, we are dedicated to providing honest, and skilled drywall repair solutions"."

"Grant and his team were always polite and easy to work with. Assessments were thought out and explained. After several days of living with the drywall/paint, my wife and I noticed some areas that we wanted touched-up. At no hesitation, Grant and his team were happy to ensure that we were happy with their work/service and quickly came back. Great service and no hesitation to work with Grant in the future."

COMMITMENT TO QUALITY

We are thankful for the referral to Jim Fisher of Billionfold Paint Co.  We originally hired him to paint the interior of our recently acquired Sunriver condo which was built in 1971. He helped us with so much more than paint. He was like having 5 contractors in one.  If he could not do something, he found us someone who could.  We used him, or one of his associates, to paint the entire interior of our condo ( including stripping an extensive stubborn wallpaper border), installing all new flooring (tile), new granite tile countertops in kitchen and bathroom, refinished older louvre closet doors, constructing an original wood frame for a mirror in the entry that matched the trim on the front door, installed new bathroom exhaust fans, installed a new dining chandelier, shoveled snow from our roof, etc, etc.  We appreciated his design opinion.  He had excellent follow up. He was meticulous.  After any of his associates worked in our condo he inspected every detail. If he felt that one of his associates missed even a minor detail, he insisted on making it perfect. Besides the fact that his work was excellent and reasonably priced, he was trustworthy, reliable, extremely punctual, and after working in our condo, he left it cleaner than when he started!  His associates were clean and polite.  He responded quickly to emails and phone calls. You truly to not find contractors with this much integrity anymore. Jim Fisher is one in a "billion".

Drywall questions, answered by experts

Although they have similar applications, spackle and joint compound are not the same. Their primary differences lie in their composition, consistency, and ideal use cases.

Spackle is composed of gypsum and binding agents, making it thicker than joint compound. It dries quickly and is easy to sand, which makes it ideal for small wall repair projects like filling nail holes or patching minor damage.

Joint compound, also known as drywall mud, consists of limestone and gypsum. It is primarily used for large-scale projects, such as taping and finishing the seams on newly installed drywall. It tends to shrink more than spackle and can be more difficult to spread.

While both products can be used to fill small depressions and cracks, spackle cannot replace joint compound for taping and mudding new drywall. Conversely, you can often use joint compound for small patching jobs typically done with spackle.

If you only have tiny holes in your drywall (for example, dents or nail marks), you probably won’t need a patch kit. Instead, you can plug the hole with a small amount of spackle. Once the spackle dries, you can sand the area and paint over it—just like you would in the steps outlined above.

If your premixed drywall mud is dried out or has begun to set in the bucket, you may be able to revive it by adding warm water and stirring. However, the first and most important step is to scrape off any hard, dried bits of drywall that may have accumulated toward the top of the container and throw them away because they will not easily reconstitute back into the drywall mud mix.

There are several benefits to wet-sanding drywall, but the main perk is that it produces far less dust than dry-sanding. As a result, wet-sanding poses fewer health risks and makes less of a mess in your home. Plus, damp sponges are less abrasive than sandpaper, so there’s a smaller chance of scratching or damaging the drywall paper. Wet-sanding also creates a smoother finish than dry-sanding.

Plaster provides a durable, soundproof, and moisture-resistant finish compared to drywall.
