"Knowing that I'd been having problems with my heat pump for a while, Jason squeezed me into his schedule. He was thorough and efficient and answered all of my questions. Although the issue wasn't severe enough to need repair at this point, he gave me tips and advice on how to prevent my furnace from kicking on (which would help decrease my power bill). I had a great experience and I would highly recommend."

"If you are looking for the best of the best and an above average company from a customer service stand point look no further! Ricky Shapiro was my project manager. He went through my house with a fine tooth comb to then give me a multitude of different options to help get me back up and running! I decided the the Aeroseal product made sense for my home and was shocked at the speed in which Ray and Ethan were able to install and seal my existing duct work! Dakota, Chris, and Fausto were the main install team for my heat pump, blower, and furnace! These guys wired long days while I was not home, and let me tell you, they left the work space looking better than the way they left it! This is said to be true for the entire team! Ric Secor is one owner operator that know how to run a business where customer satisfaction is paramount to anything else! He was involved from start to finish ensuring his team was doing above average work. He was also on site multiple times to make sure all was going as planned. I highly recommend Home heating and cooling!"

"AC/Heat Pump was not running. Bowdy from Ponderosa Heating came out the same day and had our unit back up and running in minutes. He also gave our entire Furnace and AC a courtesy inspection to make sure everything was working properly. If you are in need of fast, friendly and professional help I would definitely recommend Ponderosa and ask for Bowdy if you’re in the central OR area"

"This gentleman was prompt, professional, experienced, efficient, highly skilled and economical. I am able to use and adjust the blower in my gas fireplace for the first time. Plus the unit now looks brand new. I hope he will return to address thermostat issues in my kitchen and bathroom floor heating. Would certainly recommend him to any homeowner."

Install Boiler questions, answered by experts

Unless they are connected to the same system, boilers and water heaters will both need their own expansion tanks. The only case they wouldn’t have separate expansion tanks is if the boiler is pulling double duty and managing a heating system while also supplying hot water for a home. In which case, you may not need a hot water heater.

You can save money on heating oil through a combination of improving home efficiency and smart purchasing strategies.

Home Efficiency and Usage:

  • Improve Insulation: Ensure your home, especially the basement and attic, is well-insulated and sealed against drafts to prevent heat leakage.

  • Manage Your Thermostat: Use a properly calibrated and programmable thermostat. Lower the temperature by a few degrees, particularly when you are away from home or asleep.

Purchasing Strategies:

  • Buy in the Off-Season: Order heating oil during the summer months when prices are generally at their lowest. This strategy is most effective if you have a large primary tank or a separate storage tank to accommodate bulk deliveries.

  • Consider a Delivery Contract: Some companies offer contracts with a set price for the term. This can lead to savings if market prices for oil increase, but you might pay more if prices drop.

A common HVAC rule is that for every 500 to 600 square feet of living space, you need 1 ton of heating or cooling capacity. Now that you know this common rule, you also need to know that it isn’t very accurate, and a dedicated pro wouldn’t use it for your home. If you talk to a pro who won’t or can’t perform a proper Manual J calculation, consider hiring someone more thorough.

The average cost to replace or install a new HVAC system is around $7,500. However, the price can range from $5,000 to $12,500, depending on factors like the size of your home, the type and brand of the unit, and your specific heating and cooling needs. If you only need to replace certain components, the cost will be lower; for example, a new AC unit can cost between $2,200 and $5,500, while a new furnace costs $3,200 to $6,000. If additional work like new ductwork is required, the total cost could be as high as $22,000. It's best to contact a local HVAC company for an accurate quote.

Generally, an oil furnace is considered safer than a gas furnace for several reasons. While both types of furnaces can produce carbon monoxide, a leak in an oil furnace is easier to detect due to the smell. Oil furnaces also don't connect to a gas pipeline, which reduces the chance of a fuel leak. Most importantly, heating oil is not combustible, whereas natural gas is highly flammable. This means there is a much lower risk of combustion or explosion with an oil furnace. However, an oil furnace can still pose a fire hazard if it tips over.
