I am a sole proprietor that makes unique functional art from stone and metal. All designs and fabrication are done by superior design so we have many one of kind pieces. We also do a lot of custom work that we work with the customer to help make their ideas and thoughts a reality and offer services in those fields as well. The company consist of my son and I who work out of our own shop locally in Bend, Or. We are very versatile in the work we do; some people may have a piece of wood or glass, ect. That they want frames made for them. Walk in gate, Canopy for a bed, just about anything that may have some stone or metal involved. We also do machine work for certain projects that people would like to have done, so we are service orientated also. When a customer decides on something there is a 50% non-refundable deposit then the rest paid when at the time of the service is complete. We do take credit cards, checks and cash. No, tiling over painted walls or wallpapered surfaces is generally not recommended. Textured surfaces and paints will affect the adhesive, possibly causing tiles to lift or fall off. Painted walls with a semi-gloss or high-gloss finish are particularly difficult for adding tiles. It’s wise to strip the paint first if you install the tiles to drywall, although it’s still best to opt for a cement backer board.
It’s easiest to start from an edge as it gives you a straight line. A problem may arise if your edge doesn’t line up perfectly, in which case it’s best to start from the center. Some think that starting tile from the center adds a focal point in the center of the hearth.
Yes, sealing is included to prevent staining and moisture absorption, depending on the stone type.
You can technically install tile over tile, but we don’t suggest it. Installing tile over any surface that isn’t a completely flat and prepared subfloor will result in a shoddy overall job, uneven flooring, tiles that don’t adhere, extra weight, gaps, cracks, and room for moisture and dirt to enter. For the best results, only install new tile on a flat, sanded surface like subflooring or concrete that is prepared for tile.
If you have asbestos tile and would rather tile over it than remove it, or if your existing tile is completely flat and bonded tightly to the floor, you may be able to tile over existing tile. But experts recommend thinking twice before you do.
