I am a sole proprietor that makes unique functional art from stone and metal. All designs and fabrication are done by superior design so we have many one of kind pieces. We also do a lot of custom work that we work with the customer to help make their ideas and thoughts a reality and offer services in those fields as well. The company consist of my son and I who work out of our own shop locally in Bend, Or. We are very versatile in the work we do; some people may have a piece of wood or glass, ect. That they want frames made for them. Walk in gate, Canopy for a bed, just about anything that may have some stone or metal involved. We also do machine work for certain projects that people would like to have done, so we are service orientated also. When a customer decides on something there is a 50% non-refundable deposit then the rest paid when at the time of the service is complete. We do take credit cards, checks and cash. Tile installation costs about $2,000 on average. Grout and caulk are commonly used together, especially in bathrooms. Grout goes between the tiles and keeps them sturdy and in place on the walls or floor. Caulk goes in corners or where two different materials meet (like where the bathtub meets the tile) to create a waterproof seal. However, they are not interchangeable—you shouldn't use caulk to adhere tile and shouldn’t use mortar if you need a waterproof seal.
It’s best to start with tiling the shower floor before moving on to the walls for the most visually-pleasing results. When taking on any tiling project, you’ll want the wall tiles to “sit” neatly on the floor tiles rather than overlapping them. Finishing your floor tiles first will allow you to place your wall tiles without any gaps, holes, or awkward intersections.
You can technically install tile over tile, but we don’t suggest it. Installing tile over any surface that isn’t a completely flat and prepared subfloor will result in a shoddy overall job, uneven flooring, tiles that don’t adhere, extra weight, gaps, cracks, and room for moisture and dirt to enter. For the best results, only install new tile on a flat, sanded surface like subflooring or concrete that is prepared for tile.
If you have asbestos tile and would rather tile over it than remove it, or if your existing tile is completely flat and bonded tightly to the floor, you may be able to tile over existing tile. But experts recommend thinking twice before you do.
Granite countertops cost an average of $3,250 compared to $2,250 for tile countertops. Granite is also harder to DIY than tile, given its weight and bulk, which increases the overall labor cost of installation.
