"The guys at NW Weatherization did an excellent job installing additional insulation in my attic and crawlspace. They also reattached the exhaust fan boot. I can tell that the added insulation is helping keep my home warmer since the furnace doesn't come on as often and run as long. Thank you Ryan and everyone at NW Weatherization!"

Small jobs welcome

"Ulises and his crew were great. They installed floor insulation and new vapor barrier in our crawlspace, replaced the dryer vent, and wrapped the pipes. They were friendly, efficient, and tidy. I would recommend them to anyone doing a similar project."

"I requested an AM installation as I had other contractors scheduled to be in the house later in the day. Installers arrived in early PM hours, able to work with them has other contractors arrived early, thus was able to get them working on their project. All in all, Westside Dry wall was easy to work with , very focused and efficient on site, and did a good job protecting the site to avoid insulation spreading to other areas. Were in and out in less than 2 hours for an attic re-insulation project"

"This review is about 1.5 years late...just found the information for them after moving. I wanted to get this review out any way because they deserve it. They were easily accessible and quick with communication, scheduling and completion of the job. The quality of the job was really good, actually a lot better than my expectations. They did a tear out of the old insulation under the house after an infestation and did a super clean-up. They followed up with an excellent installation with a really secure finished product. With all of that they were also very competitive with their pricing. Not only do I highly recommend them...I would definitely use them again if I needed insulation work."

Eifs Installers questions, answered by experts

Most modern egress windows installed in basements open outward into a window well, although some older homes have in-swing windows. Egress windows, like casement windows used in other parts of the home, such as bedrooms and bathrooms, may open inward, and these windows are often larger than outward-opening windows.

Basements are generally required to have windows for your safety. At a minimum, windows should provide an egress in the event of a fire. But basement windows do more than offer a way out; basement windows also offer natural light and ventilation in an area of your home that is otherwise dark and musty.

Yes, egress windows are grandfathered. However, this comes with some specifications. If you are remodeling a basement or adding a sleeping area, you’ll need to update the egress windows to be up to proper code. But, if you’re leaving your home as is, you do not have to adhere to these requirements.

There are a range of egress window types available, including:

  • Single-hung: $100–$400

  • Double-hung: $250–$500

  • Horizontal/sliding: $150–$800

  • Casement: $200–$500

  • In-swing: $350–$700

When choosing a type of egress window, consider how you’d like to open it. For example, double-hung egress windows open from top to bottom and let plenty of fresh air in, whereas sliding windows slide open for easy access.

Most professionals can enlarge a window in five to 10 hours, depending on the window location, the exterior wall material, how easy it is to cut through it, and how much buildback you’ll need after the installation is complete. However, more complex projects can take two to three days from start to finish.
