"I called for an estimate and Douglas came out the same day to discuss the job.  He then scheduled the work for the next day.  He was very easy to talk to, and asked appropriate questions about the scope of work.  The crew showed up the next day, on time, and were all very pleasant and seemed to work exceptionally well together.  Everybody knew what to do and the all went about the work, despite sometimes driving rain that soaked them all.   They remained in good spirits ( i heard them laughing and joking) and worked steadily and productively the whole time they were here.  Everything I'd asked for was done, and the yard looked GREAT!
I would definitely hire them again, and plan on asking them to service my yard next spring for regular maintenance.  A very pleasant and hard-working team.....I felt lucky to have found them!

Small jobs welcome

"Baltazar and his crew did an outstanding job restoring my decks and repairing and staining the stairs and railings on my home. Because my house was built in 1900, it has plenty of unique quirks and intricate details that required extra care and attention. Their workmanship was exceptional, and it was clear they take pride in producing high-quality, detail-oriented results. Baltazar communicated with me clearly throughout every stage of the project, keeping me informed and making the entire process stress-free. He was also very respectful of my budget and timeline, working with me to ensure everything stayed on track. The entire crew was professional, friendly, and a pleasure to work with. I highly recommend Baltazar and his team to anyone looking for quality craftsmanship and reliable service for a deck restoration, repair, or staining project."

"I contacted them via email and heard back almost immediately. We set up a time for them to come over and look at the work needed to be done and heard back from them with an estimate and when they could start. Walt and Tammy came in and fixed our door and re-caulked our kitchen sink, hall bath - toilet and bathtub. The vinyl floor in the bathroom had shrunk and there was an excess of room between the tub and floor so they installed a quarter round at the tub and then caulked around it. I was pleasantly surprised by how good it looked. We set up a time for them to return to do the deck railing. They returned a few days later to work on the deck. They moved a gate and installed the railing efficiently. The caulking around the sink the previous visit had not worked so Walt had to do it again. A couple weeks later they came back to finish the deck (replace some deck boards) and assemble the playground. Walt had informed me earlier that the our type of deck boards were no longer available at the stores and was willing to cut them to size etc at his shop. They came prepared with all the materials and finished the job in a timely manner. We were very happy with the work done although we found them to be a bit pricey even with the 10% discount for Angie's list members. We are planning to rehire them to do some more caulking around the house and re caulk the toilet they had caulked earlier."

"We just had Pete (Legacy Deck and Fence – owner) tear down and replace our 20-year-old cedar deck. Pete was very patient with us while we were trying to decide what material we wanted. He provided us lots of knowledge insight to the pros and cons of each material. We finally decided on mahogany wood with an aluminum rail and let Pete get to work. Pete is a true craftsman and it’s obvious that he really cares about the quality of his work. The finished deck just looks absolutely fabulous!! We couldn’t be happier with the results. If you are looking for a an easy person to work with, a knowledgeable and skilled craftsman, and want quality results at a competitive price, I highly recommend Pete and Legacy Deck and Fence"

"Dave came out and estimated the work within a couple days of calling. He was very knowledgeable and offered suggestions on what he felt was the best solution for my very worn, weathered decks. I appreciated the fact that Dave was on time and finished the work within a few days as promised. I was impressed at how much pride he takes in his work and that fact that he does not take any shortcuts. In fact, he included additional work that he felt was needed at no extra cost. I am very pleased with the work he did and and the amount paid for the work. The total cost included about $200-$250 for a specific brand of stain I requested, which was a little spendy (but very good quality). Overall, Dave did an excellent job and I would highly recommend him."

"I had exterior siding repair, general pressure washing of decks, and exterior painting done. The service was high quality and neighbors are asking for referrals. The gentlemen that worked on my house were timely, professional, friendly, and careful to protect my lawn/foliage around the house. They welcomed feedback from me and ensured to address my concerns about my paint choice and what areas to include in trim. The owner, Carlos, took time to give me his professional opinion about the best way to achieve my paint goals. Would definitely rehire for additional work!"

"The first thing done was a complete power washing of our home with a solution that removed all traces of mildew in the old paint. Ken's paint crew showed up on time and with enough painters to complete the job in one day.  They were very careful to protect windows, plants and decking from over-spray and I could not be happier.

Deck Maintenance questions, answered by experts

The best material for your deck depends on several factors, including your budget, location, aesthetic preferences, and the level of maintenance you’re willing to do. Wood decking, like redwood, ipe, cedar, and pine, lasts the longest, but it’s more expensive and requires more upkeep than composite and synthetic decking.

You can add a roof to most decks, but you need to have it inspected first. If your deck didn’t come with a roof initially, it may not be able to handle the weight without some structural changes. You can add additional supports to your existing deck to safely add a roof, and tying your deck’s roof to an exterior wall can help add some structural stability, but remember these aren’t DIY projects and need to be left to a pro.

When installing deck boards, screws are generally a better option than nails. Screws offer superior holding strength over time, keeping the boards securely in place. In contrast, nails are more likely to pop out, which can create a tripping hazard. While you can use either, we recommend using 3-inch galvanized deck screws. To minimize the risk of cracking the wood, it's a good practice to drill small pilot holes before driving the screws into the deck joists.

Some elevated decks require stairs that lead to the ground level per the local fire codes in some municipalities. In other regions, a staircase is an optional feature that can increase accessibility and convenience for homeowners who want ground-level access to their deck. Additionally, a staircase is necessary if your home doesn't have an existing door leading to the deck.

Most building codes require that railing spindles (also known as balusters) on decks or stairs be spaced no more than four inches apart. This safety standard is often called the '4-inch sphere rule,' which means a sphere with a 4-inch diameter should not be able to pass through the opening between balusters. This rule is in place to prevent small children and pets from slipping through the railing. For the same reason, the space between the bottom rail and the deck or floor surface should also be no more than four inches. As a general guideline, professionals often install three balusters per foot of railing. However, since specific requirements can vary by location, it is essential to check your local building codes to ensure compliance before starting your project.
