"Dustin did a superb job, taking my outside unit apart and cleaning it better than anyone has ever done in my 22 years living in my house. He has been the most thorough of any air conditioning service tech I have ever had at my house. Utmost professional, knows his business and an ultimate pleasure to deal with. I highly recommend using Prudhom Air for your air conditioning needs."

"Chris was wonderful! Contacted us immediately and was at our house same day. He identified the problem quickly and explained it to us, letting us know what to expect for the repair. Came back next day and repaired the motor in our heater in the attic and in the outside unit. Great work, friendly and knowledgeable. Will recommend to friends and family and use his services again!"

"Josh was the tech that came out. He was very professional and clean. He was courteous and on time. He spoke clearly about what was going on with the A/C. He had everything he needed right then and there to find out what was wrong. Also, the problem should be fixed in about 2 days which is super fast compared to my experience with other repair companies. I would defiantly recommend."

Heating and Air Conditioning FAQs, answered by experts

During the summer, it’s best to set your AC to 78 degrees when you’re home and awake, according to the Department of Energy (DOE). For better energy efficiency, raise the temperature slightly to 85 degrees while you’re out of the house. The National Sleep Foundation advises lowering your thermostat to between 60 and 67 degrees when you’re asleep.

Vents may blow air even though the air conditioning system is off because of the pressure difference between indoor and outdoor air or drafts from leaky ducts. Check for leaks or drafts in the ductwork or around windows and doors.

Swamp coolers cost approximately 50 percent less to install than central air conditioners and cost less to run. Operation costs depend on the size of the unit and home, your climate, utility rates in your area, and the system’s efficiency. Swamp coolers use 15 to 35 percent less power than air conditioners.

On average, an AC unit lasts between 10 and 20 years. However, the specific lifespan depends on the type of unit, how often it's used, the local climate, and the quality of maintenance. Central AC units typically last 12 to 17 years, while window units have a shorter lifespan of 8 to 10 years. Portable AC units last about 5 to 10 years, and ductless mini-split systems can last up to 20 years. To extend the life of your AC unit, it's important to perform regular maintenance, such as replacing filters, cleaning coils, and scheduling annual professional tune-ups.

Yes, you can build a deck over your outdoor HVAC unit, but you need to leave at least 5 feet of vertical clearance above the unit. If you don’t want your deck to be that high off the ground, you could build a floating deck in another part of your yard—again, as long as you leave at least 4 feet of horizontal space between the deck and your AC unit.
