"Everyone we worked with at Prudhom Heat & Air was courteous and professional. This family-owned business offered a good product at a fair price that met our needs perfectly. There was one small issue a few days after the installation but we called and they were back out within 30 minutes and had the problem resolved in less than an hour. We'll definitely use them for our future HVAC needs!"

"This was by far the best experience with someone working at my house in over 40 years. He was very professional and worked through several issues without any problems at all. I was waiting for things to go wrong and he bent over backwards to get the job done and for the price he quoted. It took me several weeks to get financing worked out and even with Covid-19 and the issues with employees, he finished way faster than I thought was “normal”. He had every reason to not be finished when he said he would, yet he finished with flying colors. Great job!!!!"

"Keaton was exactly what O should have had the first 2 times! He came in and told me everything he was doing. He had it going in less than 20 minutes!! I paid less than the other two companies who left me with no heat both times. This company is what you need do not waste you time with anyone else!!!! To be honest they left it better than anyone else had!!!"

Heating and Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

Yes, it is possible. An electrical fire can break out if the compressor has inadequate ventilation. When it overheats but doesn't have a proper thermal cutout, this can cause the motor to short-circuit and catch fire. This risk is exacerbated if flammable materials, like dust and fallen leaves, are clogging the unit. The compressor overheating won't start a fire by itself, but poor maintenance and installation can increase the risk once it hits its breaking point and short-circuits.

Your heating and cooling systems cost you the most on your electric bill and make up 50% of your bill on average. Your washing machine, dryer, oven, and stove contribute significantly to your electric bill as well. Lights, fans, and smaller electronics add up, but aren’t the biggest energy consumers. You can reduce your power usage by setting optimal temperatures on your thermostat and investing in energy-efficient appliances.

You can run an HRV with air conditioning—assuming that you decide to keep the system on during the summer. The HRV will continue to bring in fresh outdoor air, which will then flow into your AC unit and cool down your home. It will also keep moving the stuffy indoor air out of your house.

Replacing both an AC and a furnace takes a full day on average, ranging from eight to 12 hours. The process involves removing the old units, installing the new ones, and ensuring all connections are properly made. If both systems are being replaced simultaneously, it can take longer than installing a furnace alone, so plan accordingly.

Ideally, an AC system should never need more Freon (a popular refrigerant) because it circulates in a closed loop. However, refrigerant leaks are not uncommon and may occur gradually over 5 to 15 years. If your system has a leak, it will need to be topped up in a process known as an AC recharge. Signs of a refrigerant leak include weakened AC performance, increased humidity in your home, higher utility bills, and a hissing sound from the unit. The cost of an AC recharge will depend on the size and type of your AC unit, as well as the type of refrigerant it uses.
