"George and his crew were on time and did a great job. When they left the yard looked the same as it was when they got there. They were about 70 feet tall and crew a great job. Would hire them again in a heartbeat and will again this fall for my Bradford tree in front yard."

"Dave from Arbor Tech reached out within 10 minutes of my posting to Angi. He came over that afternoon, gave me an estimate and scheduled the work for the following day. His team knocked out a 4 ft diameter stump with a decent amount of roots, spread the chippings as I requested, cut down other bushes/plants near the area and cleaned up afterwards. I highly recommend Dave and his team."

"Doug did a great job for me. I had a big silver maple stump he took out in short time and he even did extra work helping me remove fence stakes too with some other smaller stumps. He was very fair with price as well. Was on time and done within a couple of hours. I would recommend hiring him for your stumps."

"Great price, came out right away to do the job. Marc was great to work with. Got right in there and got his hands dirty with his employees. I would highly recommend him and will be using him again in the future to keep up with tree care. The squirrels unfortunately are not happy.ð"

Arborists questions, answered by experts

Tree removal can be quite expensive, especially for larger projects, but you can use the following tips to help keep costs down:

  • Do the yard cleanup afterward yourself

  • Choose to leave the logs on your property and split them yourself

  • Opt to leave the stump in the ground and tackle stump grinding yourself

  • Pull permits for tree removal, if necessary, to avoid fines

  • Pay to have multiple trees removed at once

  • Remove tree in the late winter or early spring during off-season

Tree experts don’t advise against digging through tree roots, but instead encourage caution and consultation with a local arborist to make sure you don’t damage the tree’s structure or interrupt its water or nutrient intake. An arborist can recommend specific practices when digging and help prune the roots or dig a trench for utilities with a tool that can remove soil without touching the tree’s roots.

Maple trees start the growing season by developing small groups of red flowers where the tree's fruit, the samaras, will appear in the coming weeks. Later in spring, the samaras, which many call whirlybirds or similar names, develop into single-winged seed carriers that spin when falling or drifting in the wind.

If you aren’t sure what you’re doing, be very careful when cutting mature tree roots (roots larger than 2 inches). Root cutting and pruning can affect both a tree’s stability and its ability to nourish itself. Issues during root cutting can result in damage or injury.

It’s recommended you call in a pro to help, unless it’s a very small tree and you aren’t worried about the prospect of losing the tree.

Homeowners are usually not responsible for trees that fall on power lines. Power companies usually have utility easements around power lines, which give them the responsibility to maintain any trees within about 15 to 20 feet of the lines.
