"We couldn’t be happier with the job Matt and his team with MAP Construction did on our roof! From start to finish, the team was professional and incredibly detail-oriented. They took the time to answer all our questions and they went above and beyond to ensure the job was done right. The roof looks amazing. "I needed a new roof and new gutters for my house. I tried several other local roofing companies but either they did not show up for an estimate or after giving me an estimate they did not show up to do the work. With the Fall Season coming on, I needed someone to help me out before the Winter came. I checked Angie's list and called "Home Exteriors - The Window, Siding and Roofing Experts." One of their Sales Representatives, Gary, came to my house, wrote up a detailed Installment Contract with final price and he assured me his Roofing and Gutter Crews would be out to take care of my roof. I must admit, I had some doubts about them showing up, due the poor experiences I had with prior contractors. I received a call several weeks later letting me know that the Roofing Crew would start work on the coming Monday. I took some time off during lunch on that Monday to drive by my house to see how the work was going. I did not stop to speak with anyone, I just wanted to see how they were progressing. When I got to my house, I was amazed at the number of guys that were working and how efficient and organized they were. True professionals that really worked well together. I went back to work and when I came home later in the evening, the equipment and supplies they needed to finish the job were neatly organized and the entire yard was cleaned up. When I came home on Tuesday, their work was done. The roof and flashing looked perfect and my entire property was cleaned up, no debris anywhere. The technicians that installed the gutters came several days later. They took off the old gutters and installed seamless gutters in a couple of hours. The work was done quickly, everything looks even, no leaks, perfect!!! I would highly recommend this company for anyone looking for a replacement roof. From start to finish everything was top notch."

A chimney cap costs about $300 on average to install, with prices ranging from $75 to $1,000. The final cost depends on several factors, including the professional you hire, the accessibility of your chimney, the cap's material and size, whether any repairs are needed, and if it requires custom fabrication. Chimney caps are usually made from galvanized steel, stainless steel, or copper. Copper caps are the most expensive, followed by stainless steel and then galvanized steel. Excluding labor, average material costs are around $100 for galvanized steel, $250 for stainless steel, and $600 for copper. You may also face additional costs, such as hiring a chimney sweep to clean the chimney before the cap is installed.

Roof underlayment usually lasts as long as the roofing material that covers it, as it’s not directly exposed to the elements. In most cases, roofing companies will replace the underlayment each time they install a new roof. In some cases, particularly with slate, clay, or certain metal roofs that can last 50 to 100 years, your underlayment may require replacement within that timeframe, especially if you start to notice roof leaks.

You can technically install a metal roof over asphalt shingles, but it isn’t a good idea. This is because you’re essentially creating a moisture barrier under the metal, which can easily—and often does—lead to significant mold damage. Removing an asphalt roof isn’t terribly expensive, and some roofing companies might cut you a serious labor and disposal discount if you add it to a new install.

Hiring a reliable roofing contractor requires finding a company in your area with years of experience, holds the necessary licensing, and has a history of positive customer reviews and services. Start by researching whether a roofer you’re considering hiring holds the necessary certifications. Consider requesting customer references from your top contenders. Finally, get quotes from a few roofing companies and decide which provides the best value overall.

The best kind of tarp for a roof is one that will stand up to the elements, weather, and sun. Viny roof tarps are known for their durability and resistance to water, tears, and mold—making these tarps a good choice for use in winter conditions and the summer sun. Polyethylene tarps are also quite durable and waterproof.
