Small jobs welcome

"We had an excellent experience with Leo from A&W Drywall and highly recommend him! We we're contacted very quickly after posting for the project and had an estimate and schedule the same day. His work is meticulous and clean. Leo took great care to prevent any dust outside the work area. When he left, you couldn't tell he had been here!"

"Family owned business. Dave (father) and Kyle (son) were prompt, professional, and easy to work with. Working on a small bathroom remodel and they came thru with the drywall. Installed, taped, coated, finished, and sanded to perfection. Now I’m all set to prime and paint myself. Very kind people and great communication. Price was fair and very pleased with the entire process. Would hire again without thinking twice."

"This was our first time using Cary and Restoration Services. Theyâ re on time and let you know if theyâ re running late. They arrive daily until the work is done. They clean up after each day. And you honestly never know what kind of quality of work youâ re going to get unless you hear it from someone you know. All the jobs we had for them were restoring our walls back to their original state after water damage. Our walls were done expertly â ¦ there was not one thing I would have them redo. I almost feel like the walls were better after they fixed them than before the damage occurred. . We could not have hoped for a better end result and would highly recommend them."

"Tom showed up for an estimate to repair drywall and seal tobacco staining. I explained the ultimate gold for this part of my home, He walked me through additional details and options. You understood loud and clear what needed to be done better than I did. His estimate came in the lowest of other contractors. The completed work was done ahead of time, Right on budget. And they left the place cleaner than when they arrived. I'll be reaching out again soon for my next project. This is a great crew. Almost like having neighborhood friends come over and help with a project. In this business so much can go wrong by hiring the wrong guy. Birman is one contractor you will want to keep in your phone!"

Drywall questions, answered by experts

Very little. One inch of water can stain walls, warp wood, and create a perfect environment for mold growth. One to two inches of water can do significant damage to drywall, insulation, and electrical systems. Anything over that is considered an extensive flood, often resulting in severe structural damage.

Drywall anchors won’t work on plaster. Instead, they will more than likely cause more damage and pull out the plaster. The best type of anchors to use on plaster walls are the ones that will bite into the surrounding area, such as molly bolts and toggle bolts. Masonry anchors with expanders on the sides also work for lighter pictures.

You can skim coat plaster, but it’s better to repair the plaster itself. A skim coat is a thin coat of drywall joint compound spread over the surface of a wall. The result is a flat finish that looks pleasing, but part of the appeal of plaster is its imperfections and aesthetic. Skim coating is best when limited to drywall applications.

Plastering and skimming are two different techniques for finishing walls. Plastering involves applying a thick layer of a plaster mixture—typically containing gypsum, lime, cement, sand, and water—to create a new surface. This process often requires multiple coats and is used for repairing significant damage or creating decorative textures. Skimming, on the other hand, is a technique that involves applying a thin layer of drywall compound or joint compound over an existing surface to smooth it out, covering minor imperfections, small cracks, or uneven textures for a polished look. Plastering is generally more costly and labor-intensive than skimming. Although some people use the terms interchangeably, they refer to different processes and materials.

Pros ensure smooth finishes and lasting repairs, avoiding visible patches.
