"Dave and his son plus all his coworkers were professionals, friendly and hard workers. They fix water damage in the bathroom from a window leak from the outside. They removed the window and rebuilded the wall and siding. And Dave gave me a fare quote from start to finish. "I can't recommend Mr. Malone highly enough! He's very professional, is very knowledgeable and does great work. I had recurring drywall issues including large wall cracks from settling and drywall tape lifting in a 35-year old home. Both painters and handymen had done quick repairs with spackling and tape, but it never worked for long. Mr. Malone actually understood what was causing the problems and what was needed to prevent or minimize the chances of issues recurring. He explained all of the steps of my project well and worked very efficiently. I'm extremely satisfied with his work. Very highly recommended!"

Drywall questions, answered by experts

Yes, drywall nail pops are a common occurrence in homes, both new and old, resulting from the settling and shifting of the structure over time. Though not present in every room or on every wall, encountering nail pops in different sections of a home is not unusual, particularly if the temperature, humidity, or foundation has experienced changes.

In some minor cases, you can DIY drywall repair with minimal time and money spent. This method is best when you have a hole made by a singular problem, such as accidental furniture moving, and not a continuous problem, like a rodent infestation.

Knowing what product to use is crucial. For example, small holes only need spackle, whereas large holes might need a new piece of drywall. You can flex your DIY abilities on this project, but if you’d like a second opinion or have a more significant problem, it’s best to call in a drywall repair pro.

New plaster must be fully dry and cured before painting. The drying time for plaster ranges from 1 to 4 hours, but the curing process can take more than five days, depending on various factors, including humidity levels, temperature, the amount of plaster used, and airflow in the area. You should always apply primer before painting plaster.

Deciding whether to repair or replace drywall can be tricky, but your top considerations should be the extent of the damage and what caused the damage. For instance, if you need to repair a small hole caused by a doorknob that hit the wall, you can safely patch it without a second thought. However, if you have significant drywall damage caused by water damage, it’s best to thoroughly remove the drywall to inspect and repair the pipes behind it before replacing it.

If you plan on heating your garage, you must install a vapor barrier when drywalling the garage. A vapor barrier protects your garage from frost and mold that can occur through condensation. If your garage is unheated, you don't need to install a vapor barrier. The only exception is if you regularly crank the heat in your car before getting in it. In this case, you may still want to install a vapor barrier, as your car can heat your garage.
