"I hired SmoothCoat Painting to repaint/refinish my kitchen cupboards, as well as repaint my kitchen. In addition I had Curtis add a backsplash above my countertops. When he was finished my kitchen looked brand new, up to date and very large. It added such beauty, not only the paint job but the professional touches he recommended. He recommended adding knobs and handles to the cupboards, which added much needed definition and character! The backsplash that was added was a last minute idea that he took care of beautifully. My intention was to just get the kitchen done, but I was so excited by the way it turned out that I rehired Curtis to paint my bathroom as well as do several drywall repairs that were needed as a result of an unfortunate experience with a different previous company. I was very pleased with Curtisâ s drywall work (and clean up). He actually and a true surprise to me was the first one that was able to fix and repair a damaged ceiling that was improperly drywalled years prior. It turned out wonderful! You canâ t even tell that the ceiling drywall wasnâ t done wrong in the first place. He did an amazing job! I will definitely call SmoothCoat Painting again for any future projects that I may have."

"Hats off to Glenn, Eli and the rest of the crew on my bathroom remodel. Although i feel the need to get a few quotes for a job I always choose this company. Professional, honest, dependable, friendly and really care to get the job right. I've been thrilled with every job they've done for me and have no hesitations to recommend them to anyone. I look forward to having Glenn over to guide me through the next project."

Drywall questions, answered by experts

If you suspect black mold is inside your walls, do not punch a hole in the drywall yourself to look. Call a mold inspection expert to help you. Some signs of a potential black mold infestation inside the wall include an unexplained musty, damp smell. Some people liken it to rotting vegetables. You may smell it most strongly through a wall outlet. If you and your family are experiencing constant coughing or symptoms that feel like an unexplained allergy, it could indicate black mold behind a wall.

Plaster can be a difficult DIY to master, especially if you plan to plaster an entire room, rather than patch a small area. Before you begin a plaster DIY project, you need to know which tools and type of plaster to use. It's also important to know how to prepare the surface and apply the plaster for a smooth finish. If that all sounds like a lot of work, you may prefer hiring a local plaster repair contractor to do the job.

Applying spackle is a simple DIY project that most people can complete in just a few hours. Even homeowners who have little DIY experience can complete this project in an afternoon. However, if you're uncomfortable with the project or don't have the time, you can always hire a pro to help.

Yes, you can install drywall over plaster, but there are important factors to consider. While it can create a smooth, flat surface, it is often not the best approach. Installing drywall over plaster will increase the wall's thickness, which can cause issues with existing window and door frames that may no longer fit. You might also need to adjust power outlets to keep them accessible. A better, though more expensive, option is to remove the old plaster and lath entirely before installing new drywall. Drywalling directly over plaster seals in the old material, and if any problems arise later, you will need to remove both layers down to the structural beams for repairs. Given the potential complications, this job is best handled by professionals.

The easiest way to cut holes in drywall for electrical boxes is to use a spiral saw with a drywall router bit. Hang the drywall without cutting out a hole for the box, but make sure you measure and mark where the box is located on the wall. Once you screw in the drywall sheet, drill a small hole into the box void, insert the spiral saw bit, and move it around the edge of the box using the inside wall as a guide. You can also use an oscillating multi-tool with an electrical box cutout for fast, professional results.
