"They arrived approximately 5pm. Said they were going to install water heater, expansion tank for $95 additional and a plastic drip pan for $76 additional. I informed them that I checked with the city building commissioner and was told I did not need the drip pan in an unfinished basement with a floor drain within 2ft of unit. Service man says no drip pan no water heater. It’s too late to call the city as they closed and if I knew it was going to be a money grab I could have purchased a water heater and installed it my self rather than sit at home all day waiting for them to arrive. Also the inspection failed because they failed to install the proper shut off valve. I appealed to the business owner saying I was not told nor is there anywhere on their web site mentioning this. He said I put a drip pan on every installation whether customer wants or needs it or not or city codes don’t require it. Lowe’s has a similar pan for less than $10."

"I called in to set up an appointment for heater maintenance.  A real person answers their phones, no automated voice w/ choices.  That's always nice.  They quickly handled getting an appt. time that worked with our schedule.  The service person showed up on time, was polite and completed their work in a timely manner.  As it turned out, they had forgotten to check our humidifier.  We called in, and they apologized and immediately sent someone out to check it out.  No problems.  After this, they came out for a maintenance check on the a/c unit.  Again, friendly service person who gave us some helpful info. on the life of our unit.

"On Thursday, the technician (David) came to my house to look at two projects: replacing a leaking electric water heater, and installing a new gas line (in my crawlspace) to my masonry fireplace so I can convert from wood to gas logs. He explained my options, and quoted prices for these options. I asked if he could do the work on the upcoming Saturday, and he scheduled this before he left! I ordered the gas tankless water heater and the gas line to my fireplace. By the way, I had 3 different plumbers look at this work, WyattWorks had the lowest prices. On Saturday David and Alex arrived early in the morning and worked past 6:30 PM to complete both jobs. The installations were great. Everything to code, and with neat, high quality workmanship and thoroughly tested. They cleaned up the work areas and hauled away my old water heater. In other words, a typical WyattWorks job."

"Everything went great! We tried to see if we can fix the problem but we were unsuccessful. So we got on Angie’s list and we hired Mr. Rooter Plumbing. The technician came in, found the problem and fixed it right away. We will most definitely hire Mr. Rooter Plumbing for any of our plumbing needs. Thank you so much Mr. Rooter Plumbing Service for helping and fixing our hot water tank problem."

"Great! They scheduled within about a week of the inspection. But after only an hour's work beginning at the curb, they found an existing damaged drain we hadn't known about. A quick hose check showed it serves 2 of 3 downspouts, so they cleaned it and connected their new curb outlet. With most of the quoted job not needed, we had them connect the last downspout that we hadn't planned on at this time. Final hose check showed strong clear flow out to the curb from the farthest downspout. The public sidewalk panel was replaced exactly as found. It was all done in one morning and still saved us 1/3 from the estimate. That's much of the cost of a replacement water heater, so we'll soon hire them for that thanks to quality of work and savings."

"Pro got the job done and gave a fantastic price, was pretty professional. The only issue was that the water residue cleaned out of the water heater tank wasn't fully cleaned out of my basement."

"

Phoned Marty's appliance Repair on July 16.  Although He could not come out that day that was okay. He later phone me again the same day in the evening and confirmed he would be out on the 17th between 10 and 12.

He had not arrived by 12:30, so I phoned him because I wanted to be sure he was coming.  He had forgotten that he had called me the evening before and told me he was planning to come at the end of his day.  Once we got this cleared up, he did show up after he finished the job he was on.

I had an icemaker that had stopped dispensing water, then stopped dispensing ice cubes.  I could live without the water, but was worried to just let it go, since everything had then also stopped.  My suspicions from looking on-line was that there was ice in the lines, which I mentioned to  him.

He checked the lines behind the refrigerator and did some reconnecting to see if the water was coming through, and it was.  There was no plumbing issue.  Still the water would not dispense.  After some more switching back and forth he thought it was corrected as he got the water to come from the lines.  He put the refrigerator back in place, but still no water came out of the dispenser.

Ultimately, there was ice in the lines, and he got a heat dryer of some sort and directed it as some of the lines around the dispensing unit and under the refrigerator.  Which is exactly what I had found in my research on line, but my concern was there was something else was wrong when the ice stopped dispensing.

He mentioned when he had been there about 10 minutes and still behind the refrigerator checking the lines that it already was $120.00,  I can only think this is what he charged for this kind of job.  I believe he noticed that it was very dusty behind and inside the back of the refrigerator and I asked him what it would cost to vacuum it out.  He had said it would be another $60 so $180 plus tax.  I did have him vacuum this out, because I knew it had never been done. and he was already there.

There were no parts involved, and he had also told me in my initial conversation that if I called one of the "big" repair stores it would be a lot more.  How much more could it be?  I did call another service repair company the next day because I felt ripped off, and received a quote of 90.00 plus $30 for the vacuuming of the unit.  I had used them before, and should have used them again.

No Angie's list discount was even suggested.  He seems to be a very nice, pleasant man, and is knowledgeable at what he does, but I would not use him again because of cost.   My mechanical skills are nil so I could not have done the jiggling around behind the refrigerator, and I do not mind paying for services, I just do not want to feel taken.  This is the second time I have been unhappy with an Angie's list recommendation.

Water Heaters questions, answered by experts

Newer models are packed with newer technologies that decrease energy consumption and increase output, giving you more bang for your buck in more bills than one.

If you’re trying to decide whether you want to repair or replace your new heater, consider factors like your utility bills, repair costs, and even your carbon footprint to help you decide whether it makes sense to buy a new one instead.

Tankless water heaters heat water as it passes through the unit instead of storing heated water in the tank. Their ability to produce hot water on an as-needed basis makes them more efficient. However, they are generally more expensive than traditional units. Is a tankless water heater worth it? Most homeowners will save money with a tankless unit in the long run by using less energy.

Most standard residential water heaters, which are typically around 40 gallons and use 240 volts and between 3,500 and 5,500 watts, require a 30-amp, two-pole circuit breaker. For smaller, point-of-use water heaters using 120 volts and between 1,500 and 3,000 watts, a 30-amp breaker is also often adequate. However, some models may have different needs; units that use more watts than average may require a 40-amp breaker, while smaller units might only need a 20-amp breaker. Newer, tankless, or more energy-efficient models can also require a higher amperage. Having the correct breaker size is crucial for safe and efficient operation, so it's best to consult a licensed electrician to determine the specific needs of your water heater.

Yes, a water heater can be replaced in a day and can take between two and three hours to install from start to finish. Even if you encounter extra tasks that need to be completed, the job can still be completed in one day.

Choosing between an electric water heater vs. a gas water heater comes down to personal preference. Overall, electric heaters are more energy efficient than their gas competitors. They’re also quieter to operate, take up less room, and don’t come with a risk of gas leaks.

The downside is that electric water heaters cost more to operate than gas. They might also struggle to heat water fast enough for households that use large amounts of hot water. Lastly, a power outage could cause your electric water heater to stop working, whereas gas water heaters may still function.
