"Thomas at Smart Healthy Homes was prompt in answering my call, making an inspection of my mold problem, and explaining the work required to remedy it. He was very thorough in his inspection and showed me with pictures throughout the process of working on my home. His employees were professional and respectful of my property and my time, and they did a wonderful job. They left the work area completely cleaned up. We are very happy we hired Smart Healthy Homes and would recommend them for anyone who needs mold remediation."

"They did a very good job of remediation as far as I can tell, but David wasn't quite truthful about two things he told me. They also put my stuff back in the basement onto the floor while it was still wet from remediating. That didn't sit right with me."

"Mr. Frank Trust and his employee, Toby, were prompt, extremely thorough, polite, professional and so considerate. Due to a leaking garage roof, mold and mildew developed and much of the stored items were destroyed. Mr. Trust and Toby spent about 7 hours cleaning, decontaminating and power washing the structure. They even cleaned, sanitized, wrapped and packed the personal items that could be saved. They did a fantastic job. Mr. Trust is a genuinely kind man. I’ve already recommended him to a friend. Thank you so very much for the service."

Mold Testing and Remediation questions, answered by experts

Many peel-and-stick wallpapers aren’t moisture-resistant, so if you install them in high-humidity rooms, mold can grow behind the wallpaper. It’s best to reserve peel-and-stick wallpaper for bedrooms, living rooms, and other rooms with lower humidity levels. Not only does this minimize the risk of mold growth, but it also keeps the wallpaper from bubbling or peeling.

Asbestos fibers can stay airborne for 48 to 72 hours, depending on the home's ventilation. Fibers can linger longer in enclosed spaces with poor airflow. Because the fibers are microscopic, they can easily remain suspended, making them difficult to detect without professional equipment.

If you would like the insurance company to potentially help you pay for the mold remediation, you need to inform the insurer. When you notify your insurance company, they may say that you need a mold inspection before receiving any money for mold remediation. It’s possible that the insurer would not pay for this inspection unless they find mold.

A stain from a water leak will usually be brown and concentrated in a single area where the water is originating from. You may find it under a damaged section of roof, under an upstairs bathroom, or beneath your HVAC system. Stains from condensation are more likely to be widespread since they don’t come from a single point of water intrusion. Condensation stains also look blotchy and may smell musty, and they won’t be concentrated in a single area on your ceiling.

Yes, drywall mud can get moldy—though the presence of moisture is required for this to happen. That’s why the best way to keep your powdered drywall mud fresh for as long as possible is to keep it in dry storage conditions. If you live in a humid area, it might not make sense to stockpile a lot of powdered drywall mud before you’re ready to use it. As for premixed drywall mud, avoid opening the container until you’re ready to use it—and don’t expect it to last longer than six months.
