"I originally started with looking at concrete platform steps which needed footers that proved too expensive. The House Doctors provided me with alternate options using treated lumber and backfilling with gravel. I am very grateful to Seth and Mike for working with me to understand the challenges, come up with alternate solutions, and work within my budget. An excellent solution that ended up saving me $5000.00"

"Chris was extremely professional and very skilled at his trade. He completed the work within 2 days of our first contact and kept excellent communication about costs, time of arrival for first consultation and date of service. The projects were challenging and he did incredible carpentry. He was very good at keeping the area clean and respectful of my home. We have already discussed additional work that he will do on the house. I am excited to work with him again and recommend him without reservation. He is a breath of fresh air for someone to really work with a homeowner!"

"I reached out and made my initial inquiry late Thursday afternoon. Joe responded within 10 minutes to discuss the project details. Joe said he could come out on Tuesday morning to complete the project by noon. Joe gave me a heads-up call 10 minutes before arrival to let me know he was on his way. He arrived on time and ready to work. Joe did an absolutely perfect job. He laid down drop cloths before he started and left the house better than when he arrived. As others have said, Joe was meticulous and fine-tuned each joint as if it was his own house. I would like to add that I had a previous trim carpenter attempt to install crown molding in the bedroom, but after 2 hours of seeing the first carpenter's work, I told him the quality of his work was not what I had anticipated. He made numerous excuses that the walls were out of plumb and the ceiling had. a dip in it that made it impossible to meet my expectations. When Joe arrived, he made no comments about the room, or the quality of the previous effort. He was a complete professional and I would not hesitate to have Joe tackle our next project. We are adding a 4 season sunroom and a first floor master suite with bathroom. I have already spoken with Joe and he will do all the finish carpentry work!"

"We worked with Spensir and crew to build a Trex deck, they finished two weeks after we received city approvals. They were hardworking and kind and the deck is completely maintenance free. We're already getting quotes for our next project."

"Could not be happier. Kris went above and beyond my expectations. My bathroom had to be gutted and redone from top to bottom. He was done in the time frame I was given. Very accurate. Very personable and just a genuine man. I will have him back for other rooms in the future."

"John responded to my request to come out and give me a quote for a kitchen within 24 hours, and was there right when he said he would be just a couple days later. During the meeting for the estimate he was very attentive to our ideas for the design and had numerous suggestions that were really helpful to us in deciding what exactly we wanted in our new kitchen. He referred us to Erica Otto at Home Depot to choose our finishes and materials who was a huge help as well, and John always kept the lines of communication open for any questions we had along the way, (which we had many). From the very first day of the remodel, John and his crew arrived right on time and wasted no time getting the project underway. This was a big remodel that dramatically changed the main living space of our home, but they always maintained an effort to make the process minimally intrusive to our day to day lives and to clean all the dust and debris each day. Each day of construction you could see large steps being made, and the speed and efficiency with which the crew worked was very impressive. John had originally told us that the project would likely take 8 weeks to complete, and it actually ended up being just a month beginning October 1st and ending November 1st, which of course made us very happy. About two weeks of that time was waiting for the counter tops to be fabricated, so the construction was only about 9 days. The kitchen turned out absolutely outstanding, and has vastly improved our home and our lives. Everyone who has come to see it has been amazed with the results. Even my Grandpa who is an old school DIY type guy had nothing but praise, saying "these guys are master craftsmen!". John has also followed up to make sure everything is well with the kitchen. He even had one of his terrific crew members, Nate, come out to help me with a minor problem I was having with one of the appliances even though it should have been Home Depot's issue, which alleviated a lot of hassle was greatly appreciated. It was a pleasure working with John, Nate, Rob, Paul and Scott. We've had a number of contractors do work on our home over the years and Desborough Construction Inc.'s efficiency, communication, and responsiveness throughout the project was truly second to none. Being a young family, having our home improved in this way really means the world to us. You guys did a beautiful job and we hope to work with you again on another project in the future!"

"We have a property that has a small concrete patio that eventually will need replacing. About 2 yrs ago, my husband had fixed a few cracks but did not have time to address the issue this time as we had other projects going on. In this case I had hoped to take some of the workload off my husband and hired Neatniks.
About the time he was scheduled to arrive, he phoned to say he was running late. He did arrive considerably later then anticpated and left sooner than what we had agreed upon via phone (hrs work and cost per Angies list) but that was not the biggest concern. It was a Friday and I get things happen and people can run behind so long as in the end, our work is not negatively impacted.
He is a very nice man but his level of expertise was just not there for what was needed. After using something similar to a dremel to clean out the cracks to make the repair neater, he did not realize that he needed to use another material (I believe it's called a backer rod) to keep the concrete patch from running through, thus using way too many tubes for the areas @$12/tube. He did offer to come back another time to finish, but it was clear he did not get why this was consuming so many tubes of patch.
After seeing the bill and the unfinished job, my husband found time to get the backer rod in place 1st, then used the tubed concrete patch....so honestly, as nice as the man is, we would not have him back for home repairs. I thought he knew what he was doing and clearly should have figured out the cracks were not holding the material in before wasting so many tubes at our expense.
Not worth having to repair someone else's repair work.
I feel bad having to write this as I am sure by the other reviews I had read about him doing other projects he is well qualified for and again, very nice man, but just not knowledgeable for this type of repair.

Carpentry questions, answered by experts

Converting a carport into a garage can vary in difficulty depending on its configuration, the condition of the foundation or slab, and its location relative to the house. The process has a lot in common with a home addition, but you can often skip non-essential finishes like fine flooring, trim work, or even drywall and HVAC. The conversion requires experience with drywall, insulation, and other building materials to ensure it’s done safely and correctly. While it might be possible for a DIYer with the proper tools and skills to do the work, it is a complicated and potentially dangerous job. If you’re new to basic construction, it's best to leave this project to the professionals.

The average cost of DIY window framing is about $40 to $60 in materials. If you hire a window treatment professional, you’ll pay for materials plus labor costs—anywhere from $250 to $800 per window. The final cost is highly dependent on the window size, as larger windows are heavier and more difficult to install, as well as the type of window framing material.

You can choose 5/8-inch plywood or 3/4-inch plywood—anything thinner than these sizes may not withstand the impact of debris propelled by strong winds or can be easily torn off by intruders. Remember that the durability of the wood board is crucial, particularly for safeguarding your windows during severe storms. The effectiveness of using wood boards for protecting the investment you made in your home relies on using the appropriate material and ensuring proper installation.

Begin by analyzing the blueprints and gathering the proper materials before framing a house. With the prep stages behind you, begin by framing the floor of a house on the newly set foundation. Exterior and interior walls come next, along with rough openings for doors and windows. Contractors will then add ceiling and roof rafters to finish things off.

Yes, you will need a jack for a rim joist replacement. To prevent sagging and facilitate the removal of load-bearing wood, you’ll need to relieve the pressure from this joint before beginning work.

Due to hydraulics and other specialized equipment, a sill plate and rim joist replacement are not typically a DIY project. Hiring a professional structural engineer and experienced contractors is the best approach to replacing rotted sill plates and rim joists.
