"The work by Koby Electric went very well.  The estimate was provided within a day of my request the week before the work was completed, and they scheduled the work very promptly.  The guys performing the work were friendly and professional, and asked questions along the way to make sure that they were meeting my expectations.  It was extremely hot on the day they were working, and they had to spend hours in the attic which I know must have been brutal.  They did quit for the day before the work was entirely finished due to the extreme heat, but returned very early the next morning to finish the job.

After the work was complete, I noticed that one of the light boxes was a little looser than the others.  I called Koby, and they sent someone the same day to come over and tighten it up.  Their responsiveness was excellent to correct this minor issue.

Overall, the quality of the work was excellent and they were a pleasure to work with.  I think I could have gotten the work done for a lower cost with someone else, but I have confidence that the installation by Koby will last a lifetime and won't need to be re-worked in the future. "

"It went great!  So professional and very nice and prompt. The original reason I called them was to fix a broken switch on my garbage disposal.  We've live in the house for 17 years and our kitchen was very dark due to the fact that the lighting designer talked us out of putting a light over the sink.  For that period of time, it bothered me!  So..I called JAC electrical and they put in a fixture!  Great company!

"Ron and his son did an awesome job skim coating the walls and ceiling in the office of our house. They worked quickly and everything turned out beautifully. Ron and John were both so pleasant, polite, and professional, and they were such a pleasure to work with. We will certainly have them back to fix more ceilings as we work through renovations."

Lighting questions, answered by experts

Local building codes typically require conduit around exterior wiring. Conduit protects the wire from moisture, extreme temperatures, sun exposure, and harsh weather conditions to prolong its lifespan. When a wire is worn out, it can be dangerous as the risk of electric shock or fire increases.

Testing tools, such as Christmas light testers, non-contact proximity electrical testers, and multimeters, all simplify the process of testing Christmas lights. However, without one or more of those tools, testing Christmas lights the old-fashioned way only works sometimes. Without testing tools, the simplest testing method is visual inspection, which may or may not yield positive results.

If you need to visually inspect your Christmas lights to determine which are good and which need replacement, there are a few things to look for. First, look for discoloration, such as a dark spot or two on the inside of the glass. The spot is an indication of a burnt filament. Also, look for missing filaments, cracked bulb glass, and broken sockets.

No, you should not leave LED Christmas lights up all year. While the LED lights themselves are very durable, their wiring and casings can be as vulnerable as any Christmas lights. They’re subject to drying out, experiencing cold or sun damage that causes them to crack, and even damage caused by gnawing pests. (The same is true of incandescents.) If you want your lights to last the years that they’re rated for, bring them inside after Christmas is over.

The easiest and best way to power your outdoor lights is with the use of outdoor outlets. Most building codes now require exterior outlets in homes, so you likely already have outdoor outlets available to plug into. However, you can have these outlets installed if your space doesn’t currently include them.
