"Our water stopped and was told by multiple electricians it was most likely the water pump. Advanced Technologies and Electrical fit us into their schedule the same day to see if it was an electrical issue. It was. He temporarily fixed the issue with a plan to come back and fix it properly. I would highly recommend working with them."

Customers say: Super punctual

"Steve was great! He was able to fit us into his schedule quickly and work around our tricky availability. He's incredibly friendly and professional. If you want good work done at a very reasonable price, Go with Steve @ Quick Connect. He made quick work of our lath and plaster walls and added the 4 outlets we needed. I'd hire him again in a heartbeat!"

"Great! Dan responded immediately to my quote request and worked with me by phone and email to arrive at the best solution for my needs. He kept me informed along the way as he was preparing my order. He arrived promptly as scheduled and showed me the work he was doing. He was very helpful in giving me ideas on other lighting and electrical needs! He also showed me (and left me a specially prepared sample) on how I could transform my old system into my own do-it-yourself lighting project in my back courtyard. I appreciated his candor and guidance. He was one of the most friendly and helpful contractors I ever hired."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

No, not all thermostats require a C-wire. Older manual and programmable thermostats typically do not need one. While many smart thermostats do require a C-wire to function correctly, some models can operate without one, often at the expense of certain features. A C-wire provides a constant source of power, which enables the thermostat to stay connected to Wi-Fi and keep its display screen lit on-demand. If you are upgrading from an older thermostat to a smart model that requires a C-wire, you may need to install one first for it to work as intended.

When wiring a switch, the power typically comes into the receptacle first. The neutral wire goes straight to the outlet, while the hot wire is split. You'll need a wire nut to splice the hot wire back to one of the receptacles, but you will also tie another wire into that same wire nut and run to the switch. That way, you can control the flow of electricity to that particular receptacle by turning the switch on and off.

You can certainly talk with electricians about pricing, but the pro has the first and last word on what they charge. If you feel like a quote is too expensive, you can discuss the quotes that other electricians have made and see if they’ll lower their estimate in return. Or you may be able to talk about specific parts of the estimate and how they can be changed.

Yes, a faulty or broken light switch can be a serious fire hazard. Malfunctioning switches often result from loose wiring, exposed connections, or other electrical problems that can cause overheating or sparking. Warning signs include crackling, popping, or hissing sounds when you flip the switch, which indicates live electricity that could ignite nearby flammable materials. If you suspect your light switch is faulty, immediately turn off the power at the circuit breaker and contact a qualified electrician to remedy the issue.

GFCI outlets generally need to be replaced every 7 to 15 years, though some may fail in as little as 5 years, depending on usage. It is important to test them regularly. Signs that a GFCI outlet is failing or has reached the end of its lifespan include: no power coming from the outlet, the outlet not resetting when the 'reset' button is pressed, or the outlet not tripping when the 'test' button is pressed. If you notice any of these issues, it is time to replace the outlet, and it's best to contact an electrician to do so.
