"Job included minor drywall repair in kitchen soffit and to a lace ceiling, and painting of repairs (and two extra rooms and trim), and our entryway wall and trim as well as the stairway walls and trim (to the top of the stairs). The drywall repairs were seamlessly done, and the painting of the repairs and spraying of lace ceiling very good. We know that lace ceiling repairs are hard to match, but these are nearly flawless match. The painting of the other rooms (dining and parlor), were completed with the same professionalism, quality, and care for my property as the repairs in the kitchen. Mario was quick to respond to questions and very responsive with changes made at the last minute. The job took 3 days. I highly recommend Reyes Painting to everyone reading this review. You can insulate an existing garage door. But while it’s a cost-effective option upfront, it may not perform as well as a garage door that comes with insulation. If you live in a colder climate—or if you plan on working in your garage and need a new door—you should purchase one with existing insulation for better efficiency. 

Insulating windows without plastic is usually the better method. Outside of simply replacing your windows, you could buy cellular shades, which trap air between the window and the home, add a window film that blocks UV rays and traps heat, or cover your windows with a low-emissivity coating called “low-E.”

Exposed ductwork can sweat just like ductwork placed behind walls, sometimes even more so. Ductwork sweats—like a cold drink on a hot day—because of a temperature imbalance between the air in the duct and the air in the room. In a crawl space or wall, this temperature can equalize faster due to the small space but in lofts and open rooms, that wouldn’t happen as quickly. Many people insulate their ducts for this reason.

Plaster itself has a higher R-value than drywall. However, there are other considerations surrounding plaster and insulation. As a general rule, it's easier to obtain consistency in insulating value and quality when working with drywall rather than plaster. Plaster walls often don't contain any insulation behind the wall covering by design, and careful evaluation is necessary when choosing to add it.

At a minimum, blown-in insulation lasts 20 to 30 years. Cellulose and sheep’s wool come from natural materials, so they likely max out at around 30 years. Fiberglass and rockwool feature artificial materials that boast lengthy lifespans, up to 50 years, or even longer in some cases. As always, this timeline assumes you don’t run into any issues, such as flooding or mold, that shorten the lifespan.
