"Arrived on time and was given 1/2 hour notice prior to plumber showing up. Evaluated work that needed to be done and gave me options to help reduce cost. They use flat rate pricing, so there is no surprise costs at the end. Final quote was about 40% less than other quotes we received, so I had him begin work right away since he was available. Installed all new plumbing fixtures under kitchen sink including shut off valves and drain pipes."

"I returned from a two-week vacation to find the top floor of my condo flooded and damage to the ceiling on the floor below.  There was no obvious source of the leak.  I called other plumbers, but Clive Stephens was the only one who was able to come out that day and help me. I'm not in his usual service area, but when I told him a previous customer recommended him, and the plumber he referred me to couldn't fit me in for 5 days, he was able to come out that evening.  He found the leak (a cracked toilet tank) and isolated it so I could have water in the rest of the house.  Mr. Stephens was courteous and professional. I highly recommend him to anyone who needs plumbing services. We made arrangements for him to return and replace the toilet as well the garbage disposal in my kitchen that was not working.  Unfortunately, he suffers from cat allergies and will not be able to return.

"It went very well.  There was a very quick response to my deal purchase.  I really did not know what to expect since I had not purchased one of the deals before so I was pleasantly surprised by the quick scheduling and the overall response and workmanship.  Actually the installer had to return today on the 7th for a quick update and he and his partner were very kind and quick to help.  This company and the owner are very committed to making the customer and their needs first priority.  Very easy to work with, and that is very important these day.  I highly recommend Dublin Plumbing and I would call them again for other plumbing needs.  Give them a call.  They can help.

"The process took much longer than expected, but that was in part due to Mark getting sick for an extended time. My one complaint would be the lack of communication especially during the sub-contractor work, but happy with the overall finished product and the price. Thanks Mark"

Install Garbage Disposal questions, answered by experts

On average, a garbage disposal can last anywhere from 7 to 12 years, with many models functioning well for about 10 years. With heavy usage, a motor may last a minimum of five years, while grinding plates will wear down over time. It's generally a good idea to consider a replacement if your unit is approaching the 10-year mark. Other signs that it's time for a new disposal include frequent leaks, persistent clogs, lingering odors, lack of power, or unusual noises. If your unit is not that old, it's worth investigating if a less expensive part, like a rubber seal or a loose hose, is causing the issue.

These appliances do unscrew, but you need to disconnect everything properly when you replace your garbage disposal. Make sure you shut the power off to the area first and check that it’s off with a voltage detector. Disconnect the main drain line and P-trap, and then disconnect the dishwasher drain line if you have one connected. You can then unscrew your garbage disposal using a disposal wrench. Just make sure you disconnect the electrical lines before removing your appliance.

Your garbage disposal will only affect the health of your septic tank if you’re using it too frequently, or filling it with organic waste that doesn’t fully break down. If the tank fills up with too many solids, the bacteria won’t have enough time to consume it before more is added, which can lead to an overflow in the drain field. Your tank will need to be pumped more frequently with excessive or improper garbage disposal use.

If you cook a lot or have a larger household, a garbage disposal can be worth it, since it streamlines your kitchen duties and helps to keep food waste out of landfills. It helps to know the cost of garbage disposal installation before you make your decision. The average price is about $400, but you can expect to pay more for higher-end models or if you hire a pro to do the job for you.

Whether it's worth repairing your garbage disposal depends on its age and the specific problem. Generally, if the unit is eight years old or younger, repair is a good option. For minor issues like a bad seal or a simple jam, a repair can be inexpensive, sometimes under $10. However, if the motor is broken (a repair that can cost $150 or more) or the unit is getting old, it's often more cost-effective to replace the entire disposal.
