"Very smooth install. Ed was nice, personable, and timely. He installed the solar lights efficiently and correctly. And they function perfectly. Fee was very reasonable as well. He’s agreed to install similar lights next weekend at our daughter’s home located about 10 minutes away. We’re in the market for a new handyman, so would not hesitate to contact Ed again. Thank you."

"Tommy is the best! Christmas Day my finished basement had particles of food and water on the carpet! The next morning I called Tommy, not only was he responsive but also sympathetic. He rearranged his schedule and came out that morning. He cleared the clog and also taught be a lot about what shouldn't go down a garbage disposal. I highly recommend him!!"

"It was a very good experience with them. They were able to accommodate our schedule and it was kind of a tricky schedule because we had other contractors that had to work on the same day. They kept me informed the whole time about what was going on. There was a problem with the existing pluming and they were able to take care of it. They finished all the work on the same day. Their price was also great."

"Joe answered the phone on a Sunday afternoon and set the appointment for the next day.  He was punctual and went straight to work.  The replacement of the faucet, garbage disposal and sink went well without any hiccups.  He also found a link in the main drain and  repaired it.  We purchased a "big deal" and he completed the work in the time within the time frame.  We would definitely use Joe again for our plumbing needs!

"Two man team. First arrived a bit early to set up, second came a few minutes later. Originally estimated the work would take an hour (camera, jet, camera again), but Ty spent a bit longer making sure the job was done right. Provided clear explanation and recommendations about what to do next. Cleaned up after completing the job. Ty was the only person to enter the residence. He removed his shoes and did not wear a mask. We didn't discuss either of these."

"It was great. He was early! - with warning. Friendly and professional. He reset the garbage disposal with an allen wrench - he even gave me one! He said it was a lower level model and said I should think about replacing but with no pressure. He gave me an estimate if I decided to replace in the future."

Install Garbage Disposal questions, answered by experts

Never put glass in the garbage disposal. It can damage your disposal or eject shards of glass out of the disposal and cause injury. If you get broken glass in your garbage disposal, turn it off and cut the power from the breaker, use a tool like pliers or tongs to remove the glass, and use a wet-dry vacuum to remove the remaining glass pieces. If you can’t access the disposal safely, call a garbage disposal repair pro.

While the drain connection for a garbage disposal is nearly universal and fits standard sink drain holes of 3 1/2 to 4 inches, the size of the disposal unit itself is not. You must have enough space in the cabinet underneath your sink to accommodate the disposal's housing. A larger model may not fit in a compact cabinet or if the existing plumbing is arranged in an unusual way. Before buying a new garbage disposal, measure the available space under your sink. If you are replacing an old unit, it's often easiest to choose a new model of a similar size.

The most common garbage disposal size in the U.S. is 1/2 horsepower. This size is ideal for households with three or fewer people or those that don't produce much food waste. Although 1/2 horsepower can't handle the typical food waste load for a household of four (which is about 250 pounds of food waste annually) as effectively as 3/4 horsepower, it remains the most common size of garbage disposal on the market.

No, you do not need a garbage disposal to have a dishwasher. A dishwasher will work without one, and while it's rare to see a home with a dishwasher that doesn't have a disposal, it is possible. The two appliances pair well and are often installed together because a disposal simplifies meal cleanup.

However, your dishwasher should not be used as a replacement for a garbage disposal. Subjecting it to continuous food leftovers can lead to major clogs. If you choose not to install a garbage disposal, you should thoroughly rinse your plates or scrape excess food into the trash or a compost pile before loading them into the dishwasher to prevent plumbing issues.

Garbage disposals are durable appliances that usually last at least eight years as long as you clean and maintain them. It’s relatively rare for a garbage disposal to break on its own, as most malfunctions happen due to user errors, like overstuffing the grinding compartment or damaging the blades by trying to dispose of metal or bone. Eventually, cracks or leaks could develop in the unit, which requires a full replacement.
