"Scott Oberrecht is a professional with tile installation. Work started on the assigned day and proceeded very well to the estimated finishing day. At the completion we had an outstanding tile backsplash to complement recently-installed counter tops. I highly recommend Canary Designs for tile installations."

Small jobs welcome

"Mr Price installed Mokawk Rev Wood Plus in our Primary Bedroom and our Craftroom. He also installed a beautiful Marble Backsplash in our kitchen. The skill that went into the backsplash and the flooring was perfect. I am a very picky guy, and Sam just nailed it!!"

"I hired Tristate Complete Home Repair and Maintenance to fix a bad tile job in our new shower. They came out and worked diligently to fix the sharp tile replacement and drain issue. Jeff was professional, helpful, and answered our questions. I appreciate this company and will use them in the future for other home repairs and maintenance issues."

"I WAS ON THE INTERNET SEARCHING FOR A COMPANY TO DO A JOB FOR MY HOME. FIRST TIME EVER SEARCHED "REVIEWS" FOR CO. AND IT DAWNED ON ME....I MOST DEF OWE A HUGE THANKS A 5 PLUS STAR REVIEW TO TRISTATE RESTORATION. SO, MY FIRST REVIEW EVER AND WELL DESERVED. SO HOWEVER, I WAS IN NEED OF AIR QUALITY AND MOLD TEST. BUT, DID NOT REALIZE THIS UNTIL I KEPT A JOURNAL, MY DAUGHTER BEGAN HAVING BREATHING PROBLEMS THAT WERE WORSENING, I FELT FATIQUED A LOT MYSELF AND NOT"NORMAL AND THOUGHT THIS WAS NORMAL.BUSY LIFE..UNTIL !!! THINKING BACK, I SEEN THE MOLD IN MY BASEMENT I NOTICED AND BLEW IT OFF AND OF COURSE, CLEANED IT WITH BLEACH. NEEDLESS TO SAY AFTER EDUCATING MYSELF ON MOLD AND BLEACH I REALIZED I MADE THINGS WORSE AND I LITERALLY HAD EVEN SPREAD, SCATTERED TOXIC INVISIBLE MOLD SPORES.... AS MY DAUGHTER NEEDED HER INHALER, THEN A NEBULIZER AND WAS NOT FEELING HERSELF I TOOK HER BACK TO DOCTOR OFF AND ON, VERY WORRIED AND STILL NOT THINKING IT WAS " THE MOLD" . THE DR. SUGESTED A JOURNAL OF WHEN IT WAS WORSE AND WHAT SHE HAD BEEN EATING AND DOING AND ACTIVITIES HER ENVIROMENTS SHE WOULD SPEND TIME AT. TURNS OUT IT WAS WORSE IN THE MORNING AND AFTER A WHILE JUST A EVERY DAY THING OFF AND ON.........NEVER DREAMED IT WAS THAT "NORMAL" LOOKING MOLD I SEEN AND BLEW OFF AS NO BIG DEAL, BUT IT WAS DISGUSTING. SO DOCTOR SAYS DO YOU BY CHANCE HAVE MOLD ??? ....YEA, LITTLE NOT MUCH. HE SAID, YOU SHOULD HAVE IT CHECKED OUT...REALLY?? I WAS THINKING, IT CAN'T BE THAT !!!! BUT I SEARCHED AND FOUND A CO TO COME AND TEST IT. THE HELPFULNESS AND EDUCATION THEY GAVE ME ALONE GOT ME THINKING . I SURE HOPE ITS NOT THAT CAUSING THESE HEALTH PROBLEMS IF SO, I AM TO BLAME. THEY EDUCATED ME AND MADE ME AWARE PPL SEE MOLD ALL THE TIME AND DO NOT UNDERSTAND THE DANGERS AND DO NOT REALIZE THE MOST SERIOUS DANGERS. SO, I AM NOT A BAD PERSON, NOT A BAD PARENT AND NOT ALONE...IF, IT IS THE MOLD. THEY CAME OUT IMMEDIATELY. TOOK A CULTURE. KEEPING ME UPDATED AND EDUCATING ME AND I GOT ON INTERNETAND EDUCATING MYSELF. I GOT VERY SCARED. SO THEY EXPLAINED HOW IT WORKED AND MY MOLD WAS CULTERED AND SENT TO A VERIFIABLE LAB AND SURE ENOUGH. . . .IT WAS A STRAIN AN DANGEROUS TOXIC MOLD. THERE ARE 3 BAD STRAINS. YOU CAN NOT LOOK AT IT AND TELL IF YOU HAVE GOOD MOLD OR "BAD" MOLD. IT WAS A STRAIN OF STACHYBOTY'S. OVERWHELMED YES, BUT KNEW I WAS IN GREAT HANDS. ALTHOUGH I FELT OVERWHELMED WITH GUILT AND SCARED.I WAS ONCE AGAIN ASSURED THEY WOULD GET MY FAMILY LIFE BACK TO GREAT HEALTH. AFTER THEY DID THE WORK, KEEPING ME INFORMED ALL THE WAY EVERYDAY, EVERY STEP AND SHOWING COMPASSION AND CONCERN AND DETERMINED TO MAKE ME AND MY FAMILY FEEL FREE OF ALL AND EVERY BIT OF THIS TOXIC SITUATION AND TO STORE US BACK TO NORMAL HEALTH AGAIN I WAS MUCH BEYOND HOPEFUL AND ASSURED WITH FULL CONFIDENCE BY THE PROFESSIONALISM AND KNOWLEDGE. AFTER A FEW DAYS OF WORK, THEY DID ALL AIR QUILITY TESTING. SEND OFF TO LADS AND I CAN SAY, WE ARE FREE OF TOXINS. FREE OF BAD HEALTH ON"

Backsplash Installation questions, answered by experts

Whether you use a brush or roller depends on the size, shape, and amount of tiles. Rollers are easier to maneuver over large areas and can apply a more even coat of paint in a shorter time frame with no visible brushstrokes. Brushes are best for precision work, particularly in very small areas. If you don't want visible brushstrokes on your painted tiles, you can paint details with small foam brushes instead of bristled paint brushes.

Technically, you can start tiling in a corner and work your way out. However, it's not traditionally how tiling is done. Instead, work from the bottom middle of the wall. Tile out the entire row with whole tiles before moving on to the next row. Once you finish installing all of the whole tiles, then you focus on tiling the corners.

Updating your backsplash without removing the tile is possible in a couple of different ways. First, you can remove the old grout and replace it with new grout to give your backsplash a fresh look. You can also change the grout color, which can have a surprisingly large impact on the final appearance of the backsplash. Finally, you can paint the original tile to totally change the look of the backsplash without removing it.

Figure out how much tile you need by measuring the backsplash area. Measure the height and length in feet and multiply to get the square footage. Don’t make adjustments for outlets or small cutouts but subtract the square footage for windows or other large obstructions from the total. To account for waste, get 10% more than your calculation.

The easiest tile size to install is large tiles, and they’re easier to install than small tiles—the job is faster and simpler when there’s less placing, adhering, and grouting to do. However, when tiles get really big, they’re more difficult to handle, cut, and fit. Standard floor tile sizes are 12-by-12 inches, 18-by-18 inches, and 12-by-24 inches.
