"Response to my initial contact was prompt. My home is older and the configuration of the basement presented some challenges. Jesse seemed very knowledgeable about options and installed a radon system that has worked well, based on radon testing results after the system was installed. The installation was done quickly and exactly as proposed. The pricing was very reasonable when compared to other quotes I received. There might have been a need to have a second suction point due to a structural issue in the basement. I am grateful Jesse recommended starting with a single suction point and measuring its effectiveness before going with 2 suction points. The single suction point is working well and saved me the extra expense of the second suction point which ended up not being necessary. Another company wanted to start with 2 suction points. I am very pleased with the work done and all contacts with this company."

"All of the Radon Be Gone staff I dealt with were very professional. They designed the system so it vents in a back corner of the house and is barely visible. The staff delivered the external vent pipes several days in advance of the installation so I could paint them to match the exterior of my home. They were timely, polite and very competent at their work. The radon readings in my home were reduced to a very low and safe level."

"Absolutely professional. Tyler came out exactly on time. His co worker/partner set everything up and explained the process and worked with our schedule. Pricing was VERY affordable and for a job done exceptionally well and clean. I reccomend getting the levels tested in your basement as over time this can be detrimental to ones health. If we have any issues in the future, I will be using Ohio Radon Specialists for all of our mitigation needs."

Radon Detection and Reduction questions, answered by experts

Radon is the number one non-smoking cause of lung cancer in the United States, but it can cause some other concerning side effects in the meantime. If you have a raspy voice, chest pains, trouble breathing, difficulty swallowing, or any of the above, don’t hesitate to perform radon testing and install a mitigation system as soon as possible.

The cost for a radon mitigation system typically ranges from $800 to $1,500, with an average around $1,000. The final price depends on several factors, including the size of your home, the severity of the radon issue, and the type of system required. Your home's foundation type also significantly impacts the cost. For example, sealing and ventilating an unfinished basement might cost around $4,600, while encapsulating a crawl space without a foundation slab can range from $1,500 to $15,000.

Your radon fan needs to operate 24/7 to be effective. The only time the fan isn't operating is during its replacement. Radon levels in the home can increase within hours if the fan stops working or something obstructs the stack vent. Fortunately, radon systems require no downtime maintenance between fan changes.

The cost to replace a radon fan ranges from $300 to $600 for the fan itself, with installation adding an additional $200 to $500. Overall, the total cost for replacement can range from $500 to $1,100, depending on factors such as the fan model, home size, and local labor rates. If the fan is part of a larger radon mitigation system, the price may be higher.

No level of radon is technically safe, but since it is naturally present everywhere, it is impossible to avoid entirely. The average radon level in homes across the United States is 1.3 picocuries per liter (pCi/L). The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recommends taking action to reduce radon levels if your home's test results are between 2 and 4 pCi/L or higher.
