"Eric did a TREMENDOUS job with closing my pool. As a first time pool-owner, Eric took time to explain details and his process to me. I will be hiring him when it's time to re-open the pool next year! I HIGHLY recommend Eric for your next pool project of any kind!"

Install Above Ground Pools questions, answered by experts

Before beginning pool construction and installation, obtain a current property survey to confirm your exact boundaries and prevent setback violations. Check your local HOA covenants for specific placement or fencing rules. Submit your permit applications by February or March to secure a contractor before the busy OH spring season. Finally, verify your electrical service capacity, as older homes require panel upgrades to pass inspection.

Helpful?

Combining pool construction and installation with other projects is a smart approach. Because Delaware experiences significant freeze-thaw cycles, contractors grade and compact the surrounding area once, preventing damage to finished landscaping. Since Ohio law requires pool enclosures, secure your fence permit alongside your pool permit. Bundling underground utility work also ensures everything meets the 36-inch frost line depth requirements without repeat trenching.

Helpful?

Expect pool construction and installation to take three to five months from the initial permit application to your first swim. The practical construction window in OH runs from late April through early October. Permit processing adds two to six weeks, and high contractor demand in early summer extends timelines further. Always contact Ohio 811 three business days before excavation begins to mark underground utilities.

Helpful?

Proper drainage engineering and excavation dictate the longevity of pool construction and installation. Delaware features clay-heavy soil that expands and contracts with moisture, making backfill compaction critical to prevent shell movement. The local frost depth reaches 36 inches, requiring engineered walls and plumbing to withstand seasonal frost heave. Strict winterization practices are also mandatory to protect your plumbing lines and equipment from freezing temperatures.

Helpful?

After completing pool construction and installation, keep winterization equipment like expansion plugs and freeze-rated covers on hand. Delaware averages 30 inches of snow annually, making pool cover pumps essential to remove standing water. You also need test kits that distinguish between combined and free chlorine, as the local municipal water supply uses chloramine. Finally, keep brushes and algaecide ready to combat summer algae growth.
