"I am very pleased with my new windows. I used Home Genius Exteriors to do my roof, gutter protection, and now Windows. This is an absolute amazing company, my salesman brendan was very helpful, Devan the Project Manager helped make sure everything went smoothly. Walter and Mike also from production were very friendly and professional. And Shawn, the window installer was polite, knowlagable, and efficient. And even cleaned up on his way out. Next on the agenda is to get a new door taken care of. Highly recommend HGE"

"I was very happy with how everything went. They're very professional, courteous, very proactive to address everything that's needed to be, and detailed oriented. Mark and Fred, who started the work with the framing, did an amazing job of maximizing the space we needed, specially around the ceiling. On the other hand we have Dawn and Kris. They did all the finishing work, they were very attentive to what we needed, and the amount of preparation work needed."

"Working with Renew Home Exteriors was easy. Their salesman was knowledgeable about the different window options and was able to walk us through financing the project. When the day of install came the crew was able to replace, seal, and trim the windows including installing a large bay window with a facade to match the character of our house."

Glaziers questions, answered by experts

Most bathroom mirrors last 10 to 15 years with regular maintenance. The actual lifespan is determined by the quality of the mirror, its materials, the way it was hung, and the overall ventilation and humidity level in your bathroom. Meanwhile, LED bathroom mirrors tend to have a lifespan of 30,000 to 50,000 hours.

To tell if a window is single or double-pane, focus on the edge. Double-pane windows have two glass layers separated by a spacer, which you can usually see around the edges. For single-pane windows, it’s just one sheet of glass. Another easy trick: shine a light at the window—single-pane glass reflects once, while double-pane glass reflects twice. Lastly, if you feel both sides of the glass on a cold day, double-paned windows will feel warmer because of the insulating gap between the panes.

There is no blanket number when it comes to glass thickness for soundproofing. Thicker glass does help reduce noise, but it’s only part of the solution. Most single-pane windows use glass that’s ⅛” to ¼” thick. While increasing the thickness can cut down on sound, the real noise-blocking power comes from stacking layers. Double—and triple-pane windows are far more effective for soundproofing. The combination of mass and separation breaks up sound waves better than thick glass could on its own.

The easiest way for DIYers to smooth the edges of cut glass is to use sandpaper. Wearing protective gloves, gently sand the sharp edges smooth using low-grit sandpaper and working up to high-grit sandpaper. You can also use a multitool with a rotating sandpaper cylinder to make quicker work of the project.

DIY is possible for small mirrors. Professional installation ensures secure mounting for large or heavy mirrors.
