"I worked with Mark Taus a flooring specialist. He was well prepared and helped me choose the right floor for my needs. He even made sure I received the best deal possible. The floors aren’t complete yet but so far I’m impressed."

"My husband and I had existing pre-finished hardwood floors in the foyer. We needed an installer with the experience to lace new hardwood flooring and existing hardwood floors together. We called Ken and two days later he met with us and provided a measurement and an on the spot estimate. He was more reasonably priced than local competitors and within our 45 minute conversation with him we knew he had the experience to do the job right. Ken and his team were in within a week. They were very professional and incredibly helpful. We were on a tight schedule and the team worked non-stop and late nights to get the job done on time. The team sanded down the bevel of our pre-finished existing hardwood floors and laced them in with the new hardwood that they installed in the kitchen, pantry and dining room. The transition is flawless and you can't even tell that we had pre-finished floors in the foyer. Thank you McCaman Team - we love our new hardwood floors and we know they'll last a lifetime! Ken's son is actively involved in the business and we're happy to know that this company will be around for a long time. We will definitely use them again in the future.

Flooring Installation questions, answered by experts

Spring and fall are the best seasons for installing carpet. Both seasons benefit from moderate temperatures and low humidity levels, which can help the carpet acclimate to the room and settle properly once installed. However, installing carpet during the winter months could result in lower costs, as demand for this service is low.

Sheet vinyl is among the most affordable and durable flooring options, with prices as low as $0.50 per square foot and a lifespan of 10 to 20 years. Other inexpensive and durable choices include standard vinyl plank ($2 to $7 per square foot), which mimics wood or stone and is great for high-traffic areas. Laminate flooring ($1 to $6 per square foot), linoleum, carpeting, and concrete can also be cost-effective options, with prices starting around $2 per square foot.

Whether or not transition pieces go under the baseboard depends on a few different factors. If the transitions are being installed with the flooring and before the baseboards, then they will go under the baseboards. If the baseboards are already installed, then it depends on whether or not you want to remove them or undercut them. If not, the transition pieces can butt up against the baseboard.

When installing carpeting on your steps, start at the top and work your way to the bottom. That way, you can easily control the carpet and create a better seal. This approach prevents the carpet from bunching up or creating wrinkles as you work. You’ll have better leverage over it as gravity helps guide it down each step.

Carpet tiles come with a preexisting adhesive backing, which means installing them is as simple as peeling off the paper and sticking them down where they need to go. In other words, no. You won’t need to purchase any separate glue to get your carpet squares situated. It’s already built into the carpet tile itself.
