"We were led to believe that the replacement would look better from interior standpoint than current skylight and trim. Removing the old skylight and replacing it with new skylight created a very poor looking interior finish at the skylight and interior skylight wall junction. I will have to hire a carpenter to finish the job. I haven't had the chance to go onto the roof to look at the work yet. They helped me out a little price wise to compensate for this. Overall, I would consider them for another roofing job as they were very professional, organized and prompt. There was this one issue."

"The gutters and a flat roof on our historic century home were in sad need of repair, so after some Googling,

we called Popil Roofing Company (PRC) of Brunswick OH for a consultation. The owner, Ed Popil, came out the next day, a Wednesday, and gave us a reasonable price quote. Ed and his crew returned that Saturday morning and had the new roof on by early afternoon. The gutter replacement was scheduled for the following Saturday. Ed's team did a great job installing, removing the debris and cleaning up the work site. Their friendly and professional manner was matched by the excellence of their workmanship. The new roof and gutters look great and are ready for the first of many brutal Ohio winters. We highly recommend Ed Popil and his Popil Roofing Company (RPC)."

"Last year we had to cut away a section of drywall to get new appliances down our stairs.  We couldn't figure out how to replace the drywall and still be able to get our appliances out of the basement in future, so we've had an unsightly mess for too long.  Based on Jaime's reviews, we thought we'd take a chance and bring him in to see what he could do.  He spent the time to think about how to accomplish what we wanted to do, and ended up building a custom wood cap that we could paint to look nice, but that was removable so we could take it off anytime we needed to move large items up or down the stairs.  It was a clever solution, and his construction was very high quality.  I am a happy customer and would hire him again, as well as recommend his work to others.

"They were very professional and they handled the job quickly.  They were able to finish the day before we had a huge storm, so we were very glad that they were able to complete the job.  They were very responsive too."

Skylights questions, answered by experts

In most cases, installing skylights will add value to your home, making them a worthwhile investment for many homeowners. Buyers are often attracted to the aesthetic appeal of skylights, as they make rooms feel brighter, airier, and more spacious by introducing natural light without compromising privacy. Beyond aesthetics, skylights can offer monetary benefits by potentially reducing energy bills. Additionally, models that can be opened provide extra ventilation, which is particularly useful in hotter climates for allowing accumulated hot air to escape from the ceiling. However, the return on investment depends on several factors. To maximize value, it's crucial that the skylights are installed by an experienced professional to avoid risks like water damage, which can deter savvy buyers. Regular maintenance and cleaning are also important. Furthermore, choosing the right frame and glazing materials for your specific climate will enhance their performance and appeal. While skylights are generally seen as an asset, homeowners should also consider the initial cost, which averages around $1,500 for installation.

Yes, you can cover up a skylight if you no longer wish to have it in your space. There are a few options for covering up a skylight. One option is to install a skylight cover or shade that can be easily opened or closed as needed, allowing you to control the amount of light entering the room. Another option is to cover the skylight with a solid material, such as plywood or drywall, effectively sealing it off. However, when covering a skylight, it's essential to ensure proper insulation and waterproofing to prevent any issues in the future.

Prevent future skylight issues by conducting regular inspections, ensuring gutters are clean to prevent water pooling, applying protective sealants periodically, and trimming overhanging branches that might cause physical damage to the skylight.

Ceiling costs depend on many factors, such as the material used and size, but coffered ceilings are considered one of the more expensive ceiling options. If you want to install a coffered ceiling but have a limited budget, consider using plywood instead of hardwood—it costs $2–$4.50 per square foot, while hardwood can be as much as $20 per square foot.

Common skylight issues include leaks, condensation between glass panes, damaged seals, and cracks in the glazing. Regular exposure to weather elements can lead to these problems, requiring timely attention to preserve the integrity of the skylight and the surrounding roof structure.
