"John and Vince the sales staff were very pleasant to work with and seemed to listen to what we wanted. We liked that John came out to look at the property beforehand and ask us how we wanted the shed positioned. He told us how to prepare the place. He also carefully matched the shed siding with the siding on our house. We are very pleased with the result. Tim Beaver was the assigned builder and he was very professional, pleasant, and was very conscientious in his work. He was there when he said as well---exactly on the dot. He did a great job. The shed's only been up a month and we've already had several neighbors compliment us on the shed and ask us where we bought it."

"Had Rock Steady Builders build my pole barn/garage and would definitely recommend them. They prepped the site built the structure and had the concrete poured. They stayed on budget and the job was done quickly. We are looking to have another building built in the near future and will definitely be getting ahold of Christine to build us another pole barn."

"Joe did an excellent job. Most builders we have dealt with take days to respond and/or weeks to start and finish the project. That's especially true for someone who builds decks, during summer. But true to his word, Joe started the project a few days after we gave him our go-ahead. He came to our house several times, talking us through the options. And he worked very diligently with Hartville Hardware on the materials and the design, He helped us reduce the cost by suggesting a couple of tweaks that we think actually improved the project. Joe and his crew left our property clean and neat after they left each day. He completed the deck in a timely fashion and was true to his word as far as price and time needed to completed the project."

"Dave did a fantastic job from start to finish. The work was performed timely and professionally and the price was great. There were a couple of things I had asked Dave to change during the job, nothing he did wrong just things I didn't like once they were installed and he was more than accommodating. I will definitely use Dave's Installation again.

Garages questions, answered by experts

Garage cabinets are different from interior cabinets because they typically hold heavier tools and face more extreme temperature changes since they’re outside your heating and cooling system. For that reason, many homeowners opt for heavy-duty cabinet materials, like metal or steel. However, wood cabinets also work well in a garage for storing lighter items like garden supplies, protective gear, and small tools.

It is possible to manually open a garage door. However, whether you should manually open a garage door depends on the source of the problem. If the door doesn't open because of a broken spring or cable, for safety's sake, you'll want to leave the door closed until you can have a professional inspect it and repair it. If the problem lies with the opener itself, you should usually have no problem opening the door manually.

In most cases, you do not need planning permission to change a garage door to a normal door, unless a specific restriction is present on your home’s deed. If you’re changing the door because you are trying to convert the garage into a living space, you will need to work with building control for proper signoffs to ensure your conversion meets all of the necessary construction standards.

A garage ceiling needs a vapor barrier if it’s a heated garage or if you’re installing insulation in the ceiling. Without a vapor barrier, you risk moisture issues and mold growth. If you have an unheated garage and don’t plan on installing insulation that could get wet and harbor mold, the ceiling doesn't need a vapor barrier.

We recommend hiring a garage door professional to install a garage door opener for you. Garage door openers aren’t terribly complex, but setting them up properly, setting the lift and drop speed, and installing sensors that work correctly can take a few hours for a DIYer. The cost to install a garage door opener is around $400, and it will save you a lot of time and frustration. Garage professionals have the skills and equipment necessary to work with potentially dangerous garage door components, like springs.
