"Ryan H. came out to determine the problem. He has excellent people skills, that seem very genuine--not scripted. He did not try to look around for other needs, but spent the entire time addressing my concerns. He used a camera to carefully inspected the footers and checked all the outside drainage away from the house, and clearly told me what he recommended. He itemized the costs of jetting all accessible storm drains and the installation of dry wells at the end of two drains, that over time were partially filled with water and mud due being in low spots on the edge of the woods. He came out with Pete, who also was friendly and eager to explain what was happening, as they worked to remove the blockage from a long area of pipe. It appears to have been blocked by dry, hardened mud for a period of years, as I did not suspect due to a dry basement floor. I would call WyattWorks again, especially for major plumbing needs, because they have knowledgeable, courteous and friendly people. I will be calling next year to have them check the footers of my house, as I plan to sanitize and paint the basement this winter."

"Jake and his crew from The Ohio Basement Company did incredible work, I am so happy with the sump pump system they installed. Not only did they do a great job, they left my basement in better condition than when they found it. Washer and Dryer were leveled and the framing that had to be removed was put back in better condition. Such a nice group of guys, I highly recommend them!!"

"The interior work done to install a sump pump went well. The guys were friendly and helpful, and even replaced two shut off handles that were frozen. They had to revise my initial project date and were over an hour late arriving for the job. On the second day, I was told I would have to remove all of the landscaping along the side of my house. This was not told to me before the work was started. The guy who dug and installed the outside drains left a large pile of dirt under an ornamental tree and had removed a flagstone walk that wasn't replaced evenly enough to walk on safely. It took repeated calls to the office to have my appliances replaced correctly. They plugged the pump into a lighting fixture that only worked when the light switch was turned on. The pump was installed across the room from an outlet just below my electrical box, requiring me to hire an electrician to install a new outlet. The service manager was rude and demeaning to myself and the electrician I had to hire. He repeated blamed me for difficulties his people created. The outside landscaping was left a mess and his response was that they?d do it in a few weeks. That was over a month ago. If you?re in the mood to fight for completion of the job then hire them. Don?t expect smooth sailing."

"Highlander Waterproofing of WNY was hired to install two sump pumps in my crawl space. Giulio was very responsive and provided the most reasonable solution to my water problems. He didn't recommend an entire "system" like others did. House is in Lakeville next to Conesus Lake and the water run-off and water table is high especially at this time of year. The space they worked in was extremely tight but the men did an outstanding job navigating the limited space. Two sump pumps were needed to capture pooling water in the uneven grade. The men also dug a trench 70'-80' to lay drain tiles. Lastly they installed a high-grade vapor barrier on the dirt floor to minimize moisture. They were able to accomplish all of this in a day. They cleaned up very nicely, were extremely polite and provided an excellent experience. I am confident the water issue has been remedied in the crawl space. I intend to hire them again in the Summer to repair and waterproof the outside foundation walls. Excellent workmanship."

Drain Pipe Installation questions, answered by experts

Main sewer lines can clog for several reasons. For example, if you regularly dump oil or grease down your drain, it could eventually block your line. Sometimes, tree roots can penetrate and grow inside old sewer pipes, creating a major blockage. Flushing bulky items (like paper towels, diapers, or baby wipes) can also clog your plumbing system.

Yes—your local septic company can clean your septic leach lines with a sewer jetter, a device that pumps high-pressure water through the lines to blast out any clogs and scum buildup. Unless there’s a clog or blockage in the lines, however, you do not need to perform this maintenance regularly. Do not attempt to clean your own leach lines, as you could easily damage them, leading to very costly repairs.

As with many appliances, proper maintenance is key to maximizing your garbage disposal’s life span. If everyone in your household is on board with proper care and maintenance, like running water while operating the disposal, you should get plenty of years out of your unit. Avoid putting the wrong food items down the disposal, including pasta, rice, bread, and more.

A good option for opening up and cleaning a sink drain is to use a ¼ cup of baking soda and 1 cup of white vinegar, along with a rubber stopper to cover the drain while those materials work their magic. After about 15 minutes, you can flush the drain with hot water. In many cases, these materials can scrub out minor clogs and get the drain working properly again. If the issue persists, call in a plumber near you to get the problem permanently fixed.

A two-way cleanout can help if there’s already a clog, but the best strategy to prevent one is by not rinsing grease, oil, or fat down your drains, not flushing or rinsing coffee grounds or egg shells down your drains, flushing only human waste and toilet paper (so no diapers, period products, bathroom wipes, or paper towels), and using drain guards on all of your drains.
