"I checked the price of a toilet installation with other plumbers after mentioning the price to a friend who thought that the price was too high. Other prices were in the $350 - $450 range. I then called the owner of Mr. Rooter and discussed the price with him.  He agreed that the price I paid was too high and gave me a $256 refund. The transaction was completed to my satisfaction."

"Father and son team that were very wonderful. Arrived on time, even called 30 min early to confirm again. Found additional issues, and they ran out and got the pieces needed immediately. Found a leak in a toilet seal and fixed that also. Overall I was completely satisfied and would recommend them to anyone. And the cost was affordable as well!!"

"Amazing service: Matt troubleshooted problem quickly, removed calcium buildup in toilet bowl, checked 2nd toilet, made recommendations for our “old” toilets (1997, 2008). Best part? No charge! Matt said he did not really do any work since the plunger unclogged toilet. Thank you, Matt!"

Small jobs welcome

"John arrived at 2:05 Sunday afternoon. John was very professional, and explained what needed fixed and what it would cost. A new toilet and supply alone were needed. He noted what we needed and when out to get it in a half hour. S total of and a half hours, John has everything installed and tested. I have had many different plumbers in my life, but I cannot remember anyone who provided such a great service experience with a plumbing problem. Also, everything was left in a very clean manner."

"They responded quickly. Through in what they did and gave me options. I thought the price they charged to remove and install a toilet was high but I would rate everything else 5 stars"

Toilets questions, answered by experts

Yes, you should screw your flange to the subfloor, including cement. The best way to get this done is to predrill holes into the concrete using a hammer drill and a ¼-inch concrete bit. Be careful when you’re ready to bolt your flange down, as you can accidentally crack it. You can avoid this issue by not installing the screws too deep. Or, you can opt for a flange with a stainless steel ring so you don’t have to worry about cracking the plastic.

Recaulk your toilet at least every five years. If you feel like your toilet is getting wobbly before that, it still might be time for a new caulking. Never directly place new caulk over existing caulk because that doesn’t produce lasting results. Also, caulking over existing moldy caulk does not kill out the mold by suffocating it, so if you have mold, be sure to get rid of it before recaulking.

If your toilet won’t stop running, you might have a bad fill valve. This may be the case if the valve has calcium or debris buildup, is cracked, or shows visible signs of wear and tear. A bad fill valve may also be the culprit if you’ve already checked the flapper and chain and adjusted the fill height to no avail.

Basement toilets don’t always need a pump. However, it is the most common setup because plumbing systems use gravity to move waste away from the home. Basement toilets often sit below the home’s main sewage system, and installing a sewage ejector pump pushes the wastewater and sewage up to the main sewer line. Alternatively, you can use an upflush or macerator toilet that breaks down the waste and pushes it straight to the main sewer line rather than via a sewer line from the bathroom.

The average cost to hire a plumber is typically between $45 and $200 per hour, with a common average rate around $125 per hour. This cost can vary based on your location, the plumber's experience, and the complexity of the job. Rates are often broken down by experience level: an apprentice may charge $45 to $90 an hour, a journeyman $60 to $110 an hour, and a master plumber $80 to $200 an hour. While hourly rates are standard, some plumbers may charge a flat fee for routine projects or offer project-based pricing. It's also common for plumbers to charge a minimum service or trip fee. For reference, some typical flat-rate costs for common jobs include: drain unclogging ($220), leaky faucet repair ($270), burst pipe repair ($400), toilet repair ($300), and water heater repair ($600). Note that these rates are for standard service hours; emergency, holiday, and after-hours calls will cost significantly more.
