Customers say: Quality work

"I called A-ffordable Locksmith to replace the locking mechanisms on my front & back doors. This was not an emergency. Never the less, Dan came over for a quote within an hour. He said that repairing the mechanism was not necessary and he could rework the key lock, at a fraction of the cost, right away. He did. They work great. Effective & Efficient!!"

"John was great he was very responsive and helped answer many of my questions between different door intercom systems. I have a mutli-unit building that has three different systems and wanted one intercom system. We went with the Aiphone GT system, which I had in one unit and was happy as it is simple to use for the tenants and fairly priced. I have used Metro lock prior and they were not as responsive as John was. They even wanted charge me $250.00 to come out to get me an estimate even though they had done work in there before and they already knew what systems I had in place. They were not as helpful, so I went with John and I am glad I did. He seemed more understanding with my concerns and needs. He was very quick to get me an estimate and we had the system ordered and installed within a week. His prices were also within line and slightly lower than the others that I got estimates from. The intercom is great, simple to use for the tenants and reasonably prices. Thanks for the quick service and great install. He was on time, professional with my tenants needs in entering their units, very clean and efficient."

"They were prompt ... actually more like "in a hurry" ... even though they said they gave me "a bargain" it still seemed costly to me, but I haven't had any dealings with locksmiths in a LONG time, so prices may be quite a bit higher than I thought ... on the bright side, the locksmith knew exactly what he was doing and was very efficient ... I had the feeling that he "had places to go" and was "very directive.""

Locksmiths questions, answered by experts

Changing door locks is a task that most homeowners can accomplish on their own. Standard door knobs are quite straightforward, and even more advanced locks, like electronic or smart locks, generally come with instructions. That said, the process can be time-consuming, especially if you plan to replace multiple locks around the house. It’s also a task that you want to complete correctly, considering that it affects the security of your house. That’s why hiring a pro is often best when changing your door locks.

Begin by checking the power source, typically a battery or wired connection. Ensure the battery is installed correctly, has sufficient charge, and isn't corroded. If it's a wired lock, examine the electrical connections to confirm they are secure and free from damage. Additionally, inspect the lock's programming or settings. Confirm that user codes or access credentials are programmed correctly and that any remote control devices are paired and functional.

There are many types of deadbolts, but these tips work on most. First, address any grime buildup. A bit of WD-40 will loose up rust and dirt so the deadbolt can turn. Inspect the door and frame alignment if this doesn't resolve the issue. Adjust the strike plate or the deadbolt's position to improve alignment. If the problem persists, disassemble the lock to inspect for damaged or worn parts. If you are unsure how to do it, hire a local locksmith.

Newer, electric-powered door locks generally have a life span of five years or less. That’s thanks, in large part, to a phenomenon called planned obsolescence, in which products are programmed to need replacing after a certain amount of time. That’s also why older, manual, push-key locksets can last up to 30 years with regular cleanings and maintenance. When it does come time for a new set-up, know that the cost to change locks ranges from $130 to $500 on average.

Yes, but adding a deadbolt to some door materials, like steel, may make installation a little bit trickier. For these materials, you will want to hire a locksmith to do the work for you, but be aware that they may charge an additional fee of $25 to $50 or more.
