"I respected and trusted (past tense) and considered Ed a friend as we went to high school together and I sent him well over a $100,000 in jobs as I would refer House Crafters often on social media. Years ago his team with Sean Collins did an excellent job on my roof, and an expensive addition on a friend's home which I referred. Whenever someone would ask about roofs of additions I would mention House Crafters. In 2021 I had messaged Ed asking if he had any masons that do chimney work. He told me yes and he would send a guy out. The mason (Shannon) told me he would do everything on a written quote that I received from another mason, remove my front tree for a $100 more, and the work would be warrantied by House Crafters. I said deal. There were some bees going in near the roofline and chimney and I asked him if he wanted me to call an exterminator before he started the job so he wouldn't get stung. He said no worries he had cans of wasp spray in his truck and would come by the next evening and spray. He kept postponing. I ended up getting bees in my home waiting on him which ended up costing me more. While waiting on him to start the job I painted my fireplace brick white and it turned out beautiful. I knew he had some health problems so I contacted Ed to see if Shannon was ok. Ed responded with a very unprofessional response that he thinks he was having a boil removed from his ***. I was genuinely concerned about him so thought his response was in distaste. Regardless Shannon months later finally showed up to do the job. When he seemed like he was finishing up I asked if he was returning the next day to complete the job. He said he was done. I told him he didn't mortar the joints or seal the chimney and the brickwork he did do was a mess. He said that there were more bricks that needed to be replaced than he had initially thought (his job to know) and Mark the owner wanted him to charge me more but that he quoted me a price and wasn't going to charge me more. He told me it would be $300 to $500 more to complete the job. I said if you aren't doing what you originally agreed to you are charging me more. After getting paid he said he didn't think I appreciated what he was doing and walked off. Never completing the work. I asked a friend that does roofing if he was in the area with his ladder if he could get on my roof and take some pictures. He did and sure enough the crack in the crown was still there. Shannon never repoured the crown, didn't mortar the joints, or seal the brick. And the work he did do was so sloppy it looked like a 3 year old did it. As a result of it not properly being fixed moisture was continuing to seep in the brick ruining the paint on the fireplace brick and causing toxic black mold to grow inside the fireplace. I contacted Ed about my concerns with pictures and all he was concerned about was seeing a written estimate. I sent him the original that Shannon agreed to do everything on it and remove the tree as well. I told him I wanted someone trustworthy and capable to complete the job or my money back so I could put it towards having the work done properly. Ed did not respond. I told Ed he could call me to discuss and no call. I called the office and was told by the secretary that Ed said it was between me and Shannon then he cowardly unfriended and blocked me on social media. Shannon was sent to my house by Ed, he showed up in a House Crafters truck, and I was told the work would be warrantied by House Crafters. It's sad after sending someone over a $100,000 in work for an addition, kitchen remodel, and a porch enclosure that I was completely disregarded. The last job that was done for a friend the work was also a disgrace. The porch steps looked like a kindergarten child half hazzardly put together a jigsaw puzzle. Not cool at all. So very disappointed. I have Shannon recorded on my Ring Doorbell being paid and saying he was going to do everything on the previous quote. Really sad I will have to take legal action to get the work completed properly or my money back."

Garages questions, answered by experts

It's not uncommon for a garage door to last 15 to 30 years. Of course, you shouldn't rule out replacing a visibly damaged or compromised door just because it's on the newer side. If a garage door was recently damaged by a car, replacement may be the best option for getting ahead of the issue before rot and rust kick in. Other telltale signs that it's time to look into replacing your garage door include visible sagging, cracking, rot, and damaged wood.

Insulating a detached garage won't reduce your home's heating or cooling bills—and insulating an attached garage will only have a small effect on your home's energy efficiency. However, insulating an attached garage can reduce the transfer of heating and cooling to and from the outdoors, which can reduce the amount of energy your home needs to stay comfortable. Also, having an insulated garage is just more pleasant. Balance the cost of insulating your garage with how you'll use the space to determine if the project is worth it.

An average two-car garage size is about 580 square feet. A common dimension for a two-car garage is 24-feet deep by 24-feet wide, as measured by the interior width. However, the manufacturing of larger vehicle sizes means many homeowners want to build bigger garages. It’s not uncommon for a two-car garage to be 30-feet by 30-feet.

The most common garage door material is aluminum, but the best material for you depends on your budget and location. Wood is the most expensive to repair but tends to add the most curb appeal, while fiberglass or composite doors cost less to fix.

Aluminum won’t rust, so it’s a great option if you live somewhere humid or rainy. Steel doors are durable but are prone to rust. If you live somewhere with extreme temperatures, hot or cold, you might opt for fiberglass, which won’t split if the temperatures skyrocket or drop below freezing.

You should tune up your garage door at least once per year to keep it running smoothly. However, if you notice signs of wear and tear, it’s wise to get a tune-up every six months. Performing regular tune-ups can help you catch small issues before they turn into serious problems.
