If your upholstery has a funky odor or you want to make your couch smell fresh, sprinkle some baking soda on the piece for 30 minutes up to an hour and then use the vacuum to remove the baking soda. If it’s still smelling funky, you may need to hire a professional cleaning service for a deeper clean.

Wood furniture gets sticky when dirt and grime accumulate on the surface. Sometimes, wax coatings and oils are the culprit, but other times, it’s a sign that the finish is failing, and no amount of cleaning your wood furniture will help. Varnish and lacquer can both get sticky as they age, and in this case, you’ll need to refinish the wood to stop the issue.

To remove dog or cat urine from a microfiber couch, use a safe solution for your furniture based on its cleaning code. First, blot up as much as possible, then cover the area with baking soda for a few hours to remove the smell. For S cleaning codes, use a spray bottle to spritz the stained area with rubbing alcohol and gently scrub with a microfiber cloth until the urine is gone. Use the same process for W or S-W cleaning codes but with 1 cup of vinegar and 1 cup of rubbing alcohol. 

You can clean some mattresses with a carpet cleaner that has an upholstery attachment. Mattresses made out of memory foam or other foam generally should not be cleaned with a carpet cleaner, although many traditional spring mattresses can be cleaned this way.
