Customers say: True professional

"I just had them prune some trees, remove a big one, and grind down the stump, and I couldn’t be happier! The team was super friendly and professional. They did a fantastic job on the pruning, and the tree removal was quick and safe. The stump grinding was seamless, and they left my yard looking great. Overall, I highly recommend these guys for any tree work you need. Thanks for the awesome service!"

"We were extremely happy with the work performed by H&M. Moises, Hector and crew were courteous and did whatever needed to please us. They did most of the renovation in our condo......painting, installation of bathroom cabinets, sink, installed tile floor, etc. They also installed vinyl flooring in our kitchen, living and dining rooms. They had a plumber replace our heating baseboard, I would highly recommend H&M if you want excellent work done!!"

I highly recommend Rob and his company should you ever need tree service and all the services his company provides. "Don't write many reviews, but when a company does a tremendous job it is clearly well deserved. Found Ercick's company through Home Advisor reviews. Called him and he timely showed up the next day for the estimate. Quoted the fee (didn't know if it was high or low) and said his team could do the tree trimming job the next day, so I went with him. He was very professional and thorough during the estimate visit. Erick and his team promptly showed up the next day and banged out a pretty decent sized job in under three hours. Erick remained on site and supervised all facets of the job. He asked for my input when needed. With the extensive amount of equipment needed and the number of staff members used, it became clear the fee charged was definitely reasonable. Very highly recommend Erick and All Island Tree Service."

Arborists questions, answered by experts

Leaf removal costs between $400 and $1,000 per acre on average. Nationally, the cost of leaf removal averages about $350. Cost factors for this project include lawn size, leaf removal method, tree density, location, and the time required to do the job. If your lawn removal service charges based on lawn size, you can expect to pay $0.02 to $0.10 per square foot.

Completely topping a plum tree is a risky business. Cut too much, and you’ll kill your tree. That said, you do need to trim the top of your tree to encourage bushy growth, maintain your tree’s vase shape, and limit size.

A plum tree's central leader (or trunk) should never extend more than 3 feet above the highest branch. When you first plant your tree, cut the central leader so it’s 2 to 3 feet tall. As it grows, cut it back 12 to 20 inches until it reaches its desired height. Never prune more than one-third of the new growth.

Tree roots can take weeks to years to die, depending on the method you use. Chemical herbicides take the least amount of time—typically between three and four weeks—while homemade methods, like covering an old stump with leaves, could take between seven and eight years. If you’re unsure which method to use or how quickly you need to act, consulting with a pro is always a good idea.

Ideally, you’ll have a good enough relationship with your neighbors that you can kindly mention this task in regular conversation. However, every neighbor (and neighborhood) is different. Your best bet will always be to ask directly and nicely, offering to contribute to the tree trimming efforts if you’d like. However, if you are bothered by the tree and your neighbor is unwilling to cut it, you can involve the help of the homeowners’ association or local authorities, if applicable.

Homeowners are usually not responsible for trees that fall on power lines. Power companies usually have utility easements around power lines, which give them the responsibility to maintain any trees within about 15 to 20 feet of the lines.
