"Anton was easy to work with. Sent email on a Sunday. He called in five minutes and came that afternoon to look at the job. Replaced baseboard in four bedrooms and repaired a hole in the ceiling. All work was completed in two days starting that Monday. The carpenter that did the baseboards (I think his name is John) was great, neat and did a wonderful job. I will definately call Anton again. "Goni and his wife painted my entire house: interior, exterior and deck. I didn't have to wait weeks for them to be available, their prices are very competitive and they showed up to work every day when they said they would. They did a great job. If I ever had another painting job in the area, I would hire them again."

"Thanks to his expertise in carpentry, masonry, plumbing, and installation, Joe Rossi corrected a botched kitchen installation of another contractor. He also installed a new tile bathroom - shower - vanity - toilet, making the most of a small space. He also intalled a new water heater and washer/dryer unit, as well a wall-mounted heater/AC. In another house adjacent, Joe Rossi removed a crumbling stone porch and replaced it with a new stone porch/ steps, with a sturdy metal railing around, getting my property more curb cred. For each project, Joe Rossi gave his full attention to all details in a timely and professional manner. He kept me updated about each project and explained what needed to be done and how."

"If you need work done on your deck, Austin is your guy. He just finished up mine and it came out perfect. Solid construction, great attention to detail, and he kept everything clean while working. Super easy to deal with, too. Will definitely reach out to him again for future projects."

Carpentry questions, answered by experts

The primary parts of a house that need framing during construction are floors, exterior walls, interior walls, and the roof. The framing in these areas provides the skeleton for adding other materials over the top. With walls, for example, contractors can hang drywall over the interior walls and siding over the outside of the exterior walls. Proper framing ensures a sturdy house that is built to last.

Removing a load-bearing wall affects the structural integrity of your home, so you’ll need a permit before starting the work. Building codes vary by municipality, and obtaining a permit and having the work inspected after completion will ensure you’re in compliance with all applicable regulations.

Installing a tongue-and-groove wall requires similar techniques to those associated with installing shiplap. However, because of the precision necessary to make each board fit perfectly and the increased material prices, the cost is higher than that of shiplap installations. Expect to spend between $2 and $6 more per square foot for tongue-and-groove walls versus shiplap ones.

Bump-out additions can extend anywhere from 2 to 15 feet from an existing room. The right size will depend on how you plan to use the new space. For a cantilever bump-out, which doesn't require additional foundation support, the limit is typically 24 inches (2 feet). If a footing and foundation are part of the project, a bump-out can be much larger, even encompassing a whole room. It's also important to remember that many residential properties have limits on the total house size relative to the lot size.

A cross brace for a fence gate should stretch from the top corner of the gate’s hinge side to the bottom corner of its latch side at a 45-degree angle to the bottom of the gate. This positioning distributes the bulk of the gate’s weight to the base of the post, taking pressure off the top hinge.
